Can you take a motor bike over a pedestrian train crossing?

• I'm confused as to why you'd be wanting to use the pedestrian gate.... surely that means the barriers are down, so you're trying to cut across anyway... which would be dangerous..?

I always believed that to be a pedestrian you'd have to carry your bike.... or, in your case your Vespa.
From what i read it is NOT a level crossing merely a passenger/walking crossing. I would say yes you can walk it through but make sure the engine is off.

But also make sure there are no leaks either as train wheels dont like oil/petrol on the railhead

Don't you have to get off to open/close the gates anyway? So just push it over, that's defitely fine I would have thought.

There is no crossing for cars, only pedestrians. They must have shut it off to cars some years ago. I think I should physically get off, but it is possible to lean over and open the gate, it has no latches you just pull it and push at the other end x
• Jeff - that is a good point about the oil leaks. It would be awful if it couldn't stop :(

10JH and Dave - I will take a pic on the way home tomorrow. It will be dark but will do my best ha ha.

Thanks for everyone's help. The fact there are no bike signs saying not to is a good start xx

Like this one last week, due to leaves - it went for 2.5 miles at 65mph past the stop

technically pushing a motorbike on a pavement/footpath is illegal, although most cops probably won't book you for it or even realise it so I would expect you would be unlucky if you were caught.
you also aren't insured either (again because pushing a motorbike on the pavement is illegal)

• This reminds me of what cyclists do at traffic lights, where they go up onto the pavement to avoid them. :D
• Lee - it is literally just to avoid an extra 10 - 15 minutes on my journey which goes through town with all the traffic etc.

And it is a road, that is only blocked because of the crossing, so am not going down a path to get to it xxx

I've asked somebody who might know, the response what that it would probably be okay so long as you dismounted (like cyclists should) and push the bike across. If I get any more responses, I'll add them.

Apparently this situation would come under the jurisdiction of the British Transport Police, you could try emailing them on first_contact@btp.pnn.police.uk

• Thanks Tigsteroonie! Can I ask who you are asking? LOL :D Thanks for asking others that may be qualified xxx
