the first time I fixed it. the gas safe engineer commented that the boiler thermostat was likely to overheat if they keep running is as they did. they were advised to change and they agreed. a timer was set according to their wishes which they turned off.
its their negliance. tenants need to respect property as their own and treat it accordingly. they pay rent to enjoy the property, but with that comes responsibility. Its their duty to pay the cost in whole or part.
if they took a slegdehammer to the boiler who is liable?0 -

Surely a thermostat can't overheat, it only measures and controls temperature. So if the gas engineer said that it looks like he doesnt really know what he's doing. The boiler could overheat, but only if the thermostat wasnt working correctly - so why didnt the gas engineer change the thermostat when he serviced it?0

i have mine on 'all the time' too, room thermostat kicks it in if temp drops below 17 degrees. Ours doesn't overheat as the room thermostat kicks in and stops the boiler running then it kicks in again when the temp drops.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000

For Paul the Painter and others....yes a boiler (central heating) cannot be asked to run at maximum capacity 24 x 7 as it will overheat like any appliance. I am not referring to a boiler on but in use for heating.
I really do believe they have been totally irresponsible and they should pay the cost or go without to make them learn the value.
Yes I set the timer for 3 hours a day, but the tenants turn it off and just leave heating on all day even when they are out or on holiday!
They pay for the gas usage, so it's entirely up to them how often they have the central heating on! It's totally your responsibility to ensure that the boiler is maintained correctly. As other posters have suggested, take out an insurance scheme with a heating company, so you'll not have big outlays, but will have peace of mind for you and your tenants! I'm quite shocked at your attitude!0 -

There is something seriously wrong here.
Get that boiler repaired now! and by someone who knows how to do it properly.
If there is some kind of gas accident, you could potentially be up on a manslaughter charge. Let alone living with the consequences. If these were relatives of mine, I would have the HSE on site faster than you can say Jack Robinson

Is there a problem with drafty windows, poor insulation etc? That they need to keep the heating on all the time?
Perhaps upping the insulation would help them?
The new loft insulation levels is about 4000 ft of the stuff I think... ;-)0 -
