Who says there are "pedestrians standing near to the lollipop control"? I never read those words from Jaydee.

The LC still needs to use caution and enter the roadway in a sensible manner whatever the conditions.

??????? Is he/she going to stop traffic for any other reason?????
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

At the time you are driving and see no one and are doing 25 quite reasonably IMHO.

The LC might see a 'regular' approaching or who has just that second stopped waiting to cross. In the first instance the LC is jumping the gun and being too enthusiastic to stop traffic. In the second instance you are not expected to suddenly stop just because a pedestrian has just that second arrived on the scene.

In any event an LC who lurches out infront of you causing you to do an Emergency stop or a swerve, The blame should be apportioned mostly on the LC not the driver.
  • They wear a great big fluorescent yellow jacket so they stand out from everything else, so no excuse for not seeing them.If they start to move then you cna presume its for a reason and so you slow down just in case.If they are just scratching their backside, nvm carry on as normal. If its to let someone cross the road you are now going slow enough to not need to emergency stop or swerve. If you swerve you are effectively going through a red light.
Its the same principal you apply to zebra crossings if someone is getting near them, you slow down whether you think they are going to cross or not. This doesn't mean you are driving around at 5mph just in case of some random incident in the road, its using observation and driving with consideration.

Its no great hardship is it to slow down on these specific occasions is it?Does it affect your journey time noticably?

This is just rubbish, and doesn't take on board the point that jaydee said. You try driving along at 25 mph and traffic lights ahead on green you approach traffic lights to go through them and 10 feet away they change to red (with no amber) You tell me you are going to stop with no emergency stop?

You said yourself that you don't drive ridiculously slow just because there is an LC person at the side of the road. So Taking THAT as the scenario, then the LC suddenly decides to lurch into the road and tell you to stop when you are 10 feet away. That is what Jaydee said, and you are all trying to blame her driving for an action caused by a supposedly trained professional stepping into the road infront of a moving car.

##But try and argue that fact with the judge when you have just crushed the life out of said PED directed by an official lolli ????

Like I said, treat the LL as an amber themselves and drive accordingly hence its not green to red, its already on amber. It isn't exactly an inconvenience to slow down a bit more in anticipation. And no, I have never had to do an emergency stop for one because I am going slow enough already to slow down and stop if necessary.
Maybe the one referred to has a deathwish or some misplaced belief in their power of deflecting vehicles but the vast majority of them are sensible or they would be roadkill by now.
As cyclone said, no judge in the land is going to let you off for mowing down a LL, you would be hung drawn and quartered.

you do have to drive with 'what if' attitude, you have to think 'what if' when you are driving down a street and their are end to end parked cars 'what if' a kid runs out between parked cars, you have to anticipate that near a school (esp near kick out time) there might be children and a pedestrian crossing possibly manned and 'what if' a child ran out bypassing the crossing person.
if you are driving in a pompous tw*ty way that that you think that the road are you own personal playground and you would not be able to stop then get the damn off the road you shouldn't be driving at all.
