OP - so you're one of the impatient cretins that doesn't like stopping.

When we come back from the school after dropping off my kids, the crossing warden stops the traffic to let us parents cross safely.

I don't think the lollipops say "stop children" anymore, it's just "stop".

Crossings are to be stopped at to let other road users (pedestrians) cross in safety. All the details on this link with one clause from the code below.

Zebra crossings. As you approach a zebra crossing
look out for pedestrians waiting to cross and be ready to slow down or stop to let them cross
you MUST give way when a pedestrian has moved onto a crossing
allow more time for stopping on wet or icy roads
do not wave or use your horn to invite pedestrians across; this could be dangerous if another vehicle is approaching
be aware of pedestrians approaching from the side of the crossing
A zebra crossing with a central island is two separate crossings (see Rule 20).
It's a shame that it has got absolutely nothing to do with crossing wardens. In a lot of cases they do not operate anywhere near Zebra, pelican, toucan or puffin crossings

    Apologies !!!!!! and OP.

I should have explained myself better. What I meant to say was that stopping for other road users crossing shouldn't be seen as an irritation but as a courteous thing to do. After all I am sure we have all tried to cross a road when traffic hasn't slowed or stopped at some time or other. I used the highway code section relating to zebra crossings as an example of good practice.

Hmm. Some rather extreme suggestions there. It's not the end of the world, but yet another irritation in the daily grind of life.

Whilst sat there this morning, I notice Chorlton is correct - it says STOP and then has a picture of what looks like a big child and a little child. It doesn't look like an adult.

I'm quite happy to be courteous and let people across, but on my own terms rather than being told to do so, particularly if that person has no right to do so.

Anyway, as it appears that the lollipop lady does have every right to stop me, I shall sit there patiently and wait.

    Thanks all.

:rotfl: I've enjoyed this thread, just the image of you advancing at high speed towards the group, leaning out of your window shouting "I only stop for big children and little children, not adults you big road crossing fraud!" as your tyres thump over her twitching legs and her lollipop spirals over your roof.
  • And woe betide any who dare tell him to stop, its on his TERMS or not at all!!!!

Of course, had you have been up to date with the Highway Code, you would have known that.

You do have a Highway Code ?
