Legal Lollipop Lady?

I disagree. I think its the LL's fault for endangering herself, other pedestrians, and most importantly, me, for stepping out at an unsafe moment.
Its a 30 mph road, to which during school times I perhaps do a reasonable imo 20mph. This still gives a stopping distance of about 40ft according to the highway code.
Certainly wouldn't say thats too fast, but then I suppose you'll be screaming 'think of the children' if I go over 5 mph?0 -
If you need to swerve or make an emergency stop, you are going too fast.
You are approaching a school crossing at school opening/closing time, the LL lady or gent has a Hi-Viz coat on...you should be driving at a speed at which you can stop safely.0 -
I think they do a useful job, but it does wind me up when they wait till you're 10ft away before jumping in to the road, pole first, causing me to either do an emergency stop or swerve. Doubly annoying when its clear traffic opposite way and behind me.
Where are these nice totty then, cyclone? I thought to be a lollipop lady, you had to be old enough to remember the Boer war and have a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp?
I must admit we do have a relief lollipop man for the crossing down the road, refered to by motorists, parents and the resident crossing lady, as "Little Hitler" and hated by all. Even the klids get it from him:DI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

I can 'stop safely' at any speed, thats irrelevant, and if lolipop lady's have the same attitude as you, thats probably why they're getting run over. Don't get the point about the high vis jacket, I can see them perfectly, its whether they can see me I'm not sure about. They have a great flashing light and a banner, but if they step out 10ft infront of your car, you're going to struggle to stop regardless of speed.
But then I suppose you're trying to be awkward on purpose.0 -

Lollipop persons are meant to hold their lollipop diagonally into the road just before they step out, to warn cars. There should be a diagram in the highway code. If she's not doing that then she's not doing it right, otherwise yes you are going too quickly.
The ones that leap out at the last second pulling faces, going 'WAAAAARRRRRRGH' and waggling the lollipop - sadly never last very long.
Its a hard life on Britains roads, survival of the lollipop fittest and so on0 -

Not being awkward at all, just stating the obvious, if you need to swerve or make an emergency stop, you are driving to fast for the prevailing conditions.
I can honestly say that I have never needed to.0 -

The prevailing conditions mentioned would be that if the LL was close enough to the curb to just stuck her pole out then you should have noticed her and slowed down in case she did it, like a light on amber. If she was further from the curb then you should have seen her moving towards the curb and still been able to slow down.
Just treat them as a set of traffic lights that can change at a moment snotice and you can't go far wrong.0 -

I now have visions of WagBo off Harry Hill's TV Burp in a hi vis jacket jumping out into the path of cars.0
