Hi CMD we have booked a trip to Disneyland Paris in January.

It's the reason I took a second job so that we could afford the holiday, 2 passports (DH's needs renewed, DS hasn't got one), and spending money without compromising the debt overpayments.

However, that has now gone pear shaped. On Tuesday I quit my 2nd job. I have felt uncomfortable working for them from the start due to some of their working practices but I liked the work and it was extra money. As you may know the first £60 each month went to the holiday fund and anything over went to the loan.

On Monday it all kicked off. They expected me to do something very unreasonable and I said no. I was told that if I didn't do it then I couldn't work for them. I came home quite upset and DH told me that the extra money wasn't worth all the carp I was getting. I still felt very guilty but on checking the bank we do have enough saved to pay for the holiday and passports. But the overpayments will suffer for a while. :(

I rang work on the Tuesday and told them I was unwilling to do what they had asked me and therefore in their words I could no longer work for them. The response I got? "Well fine then!" And then they hung up!!

I do feel like a weight has lifted, knowing I don't have to work for them anymore but I am also feeling guilty about the overpayments. I have contacted an agency and am hopeful of agency work. I have to wait for a new DBS check to come through but then I should be able to pick up work as and when.
    Goals for February
    Declutter 2/50
    Money Made £0/£200
    Overpayments £0/£200

I think your OH was right! Really not worth doing something you are uncomfortable with. Are you employers within their rights to ask you to do what ever it was? Are their working practices lawful !!!! Anyway something will come along and as you say your holiday is saved for the over payments are just that, so its not as if you are going to default.

    Good luck:D

Hi Igamogam it's difficult to explain without giving too much detail. Yes they are within their rights to ask me to do what they wanted me to do but not the way they wanted me to do it. (If that makes sense) I told them that I couldn't do it the way they wanted me to do it but I would do it the correct way. The manager then got up on her high horse and said if I wasn't willing to do it (which I was but just not the way they wanted) then I couldn't work for them anymore.

I am not willing to go against everything I have learnt working in this sector for 10 years just because it suits them. There are guidelines that companies have to follow and they are treading a very thin line.

Better out of it. Because you can bet that it will be those who carry out requests against the guidelines will be ones who take the hit...........its never the managers in my experience:mad:

Goodness me. Sorry you had to go through that! Good on you for sticking to your principles and doing the right thing though. No job is worth making yourself feel constantly uncomfortable for, and any manager worth their salt wouldn't behave like that to an employee!!

    glad camping was cheery :j

Thank you ladies. It was my weekend to work this weekend but obviously I didn't after handing my notice in. Do you know I have had a lovely relaxing Saturday. I hadn't noticed how stressed I've been but today has bed a lovely day and we haven't really done anything special. DD had her swimming lesson, then we came home and tidied upstairs and the front room too, then we took the kids out on their bikes. It has been lovely. I have felt really relaxed. Even when the kids have argued!!

Our bedroom is a lot tidier and more organised now as we have had a good sort through and moved stuff around. We organised some of the playroom (needs finishing) and DD started her room too. She did so well as she really hates getting rid of things. She gets really upset but today we had a talk about out growing things and making room for new etc and she had a good go. Okay I would have "sorted" a lot more of her toys into the charity shop pile but she did really well on her own.

We managed to make one box of toys to charity shop and 2 boxes of recycling. :D we are slowly getting there with decluttering. We've still got loads to do but we have made a good start and I'm feeling good about the progress we are making. :D
