  • Hi, my DH is a terrible snorer. He has tried nasal strips (didnt work), throat sprays (gave him a sore throat after a while), me kicking him (he wasnt too impressed with that one), me pushing him and me wearing earplugs - nothing worked totally.

Then, a few months ago whilst I was lying there at 4am counting the seconds between snores, I realised he had stopped breathing. It only lasted a short time but when he started again it was with quite a gasp (though I must admit I couldn't help relishing the peace for that brief interlude ;)) Anyway, I made him a Drs appt because it had scared me. After a sleep test which he did at home, he was diagnosed with medium to high Sleep Apnoea. Like others have said, left untreated this can be serious. My DH was given the number of a company called Sleeppro (https://www.sleeppro.co.uk), based in Hampshire by his consultant. He sent away for a mould which, once placed in hot water becomes pliable (a bit like the mouth guard you where when playing rugby). Its bloody magic! It only cost £30.00, there is a more expensive one (£125) which is more silicone based (you get a certain percentage off if you order within six months) and is meant to be more comfortable. We are going to upgrade just before the six months deadline.

Its definitely saved me from spending time at Her Majestys Pleasure, I can tell you!

Oohh, your girlfriend has my sympathy! My hubby snores terribly and I've spent many a night downstairs on the sofa because he wouldn't wake up so I could make him go down.:(

If DH wakes up me up, I wake him - no matter how long he "pretends" to be asleep. Then I tell him I've heard a noise & suggest checking the back door ....By the time he's back I aim to be asleep. Well, it's preferable to murder :o

  • I snore when Ive had a drink, and when lying on my back - OH is constantly turning me on my side. However he doesnt snore, he just does a strange gurgling sound, a bit like The Grudge...disturbing

How you treat it all depends on the reason for the snoring. For some people the nasal strips do the trick. Others find the spray works. For others it is the gum shield thing. Wosrt scenario is sleep apnoea ad that needs to be treated. Losing weight helps.
  • you could tell her that she should work harder then she would go to sleep before you do...or you could sleep with your wife more often:O)

I snore a lot, and one of my resolutions is to sort it out - I think it might be as simple as losing weight.
My OH's ringtone is me snoring (recorded from our daughter's room!) :(
Can we just take it as read I didn't mean to offend you?
  • To try and sleep next to someone who snores is a nightmare. But the snorer isnt aware that they snore.
My OH snores like a wild pig and it used to drive me insane and then I found this http://www.snorewizard.co.uk/
IMO it is the best thing ever! I get some sleep and he is no longer being kicked in the shins!

Does this worsen the snoring then? The only reason I ask is because my OH broke his nose twice before I met him and he is a terrible snorer, but I never thought it would have been because he had broken his nose?

With him it does as one side of his nose isnt straight and thats the nostril he snores more from. I have begged him to ask for a referal to see ENT consultant, but as of yet, he hasnt.
