I use earplugs, but then OH rarely snores. It's mostly when he's had a drink, or has a cold.

Other than all of the above suggestions, is weight an issue? Not trying to be rude, but one of my friends used to snore sooooo loudly! After she went on a diet and lost a few stone though, the snoring stopped. Hasn't been an issue since, but God, I did want to murder her on holiday once! I ended up sleeping in the bathroom just to get away from her (one door separation was not enough!).

  • My husband is a terrible snorer and we found this wrist electric shock device works VERY well!!

Strips, mouth plates etc didnt help at all with him. He has broken his nose on 3 occasions and his snoring is so loud.

first off, get yourself down to the GP and find out if there is a MEDICAL reason for you snoring. My OH used to drive me mad with his snoring! BUT, he had polyps up his nose and although he breathed ok when vertical, they used to block his nose when horizontal! snoring can also be caused by a variety of other things which need to be ruled out before messing about with over the counter remedies or old wives tales (some of which it has to be said DO work if nothing else is wrong)!
its a difficult situation, but unlike my OH, it sounds as if YOU are willing to explore reasons for you snoring,,,,,,,,,,,, so good luck and I hope you can find out the cause and stop the snoring.

Speaking from direct experience as the snorer, if your partner's snoring keeps you awake, makes you think of sleeping in another room, or worse leaving, then go get him/her checked out at your doctor's. It could be what I have which is sleep apnoea. It is easily diagnosed and can be treated and there is no pain involved but it can become serious. Other symptoms can be an overwhelming need to sleep during the day, in general falling asleep at the drop of a hat, nightmares, mood swings, water problems. I was told it goes with body type i.e. if your partner has a short neck this can predispose someone to it. Very often it is the partner who'd like to get a decent night's sleep who goes to the doctor, but it's the snorer the doctor's interested in. So if your partner's snoring could keep the street awake, as mine did, do check it out.

my boyfriend has a nasal problem and snores so so loud its unbelievable, tell your gf to give you a sharp dig, then she'll have roughly a 4 minute window to get herself to sleep. Nothing helps my boyfriend, his only option is an operation which could leave him with a paralised top lip!!

I'm also with the people who say to take yourself off to your GP. My partner has sleep apnea, and (untreated) his snoring was incredibly loud. Treated, he feels much better - more energy, less sleeping, less general crankiness - and I can sleep in the same room as him.

Apparently lots of people with sleep apnea don't realise it until their partners/neighbours moan about the noise - so the fact that you didn't know you snored doesn't necessarily mean that your snoring is at a reasonable level.

Your partner might just be a light sleeper - in which case, earplugs! - but even if there's nothing wrong with you a trip to the GP should get you brownie points with her.

Many years ago I had this problem. I went to my GP who advised me to lose some weight.

It certainly worked for me. Found myself in the same situation earlier this year. Went to my GP again who put me on a weight management programme. Not only do I not snore now, I get a better nights sleep.

Mind you, as I haven't slept with the OH for several years it was only me and the cats being kept awake..:rotfl:

I would advise the OP to get to their GP asap. You bever know it might work

I sympathise with your girlfriend, my OHs snoring is unbarable sometimes! I have actually threatened to kill him in the night before if he didnt shut up :rotfl::rotfl: my rational side goes completely out the window when I'm still awake at 2am!

Nasal strips dont work on my OH, but it is worth a try because some people swear by them! Also doesnt make a difference whether my OH sleeps on his side or back.

Is she a light sleeper? If so get some ear plugs. But what i have found is that once I am asleep OHs snoring doesnt wake me up because I am quite a deep sleeper. So I tend to go to bed half an hour or so before OH so that once he comes up I'm already asleep. Of course this doesnt always happen.

  • Your GF has my utmost sympathy, i could cheerfully strangle my hubby when he snores! He is not too bad when on his side, its when he lies on his back he is a pain.
Also when he has had a drink which thankfully isnt often - i usually dont bother going to bed and just sleep on the sofa as he is horrendous.

Does this worsen the snoring then? The only reason I ask is because my OH broke his nose twice before I met him and he is a terrible snorer, but I never thought it would have been because he had broken his nose?
