Sticky-toffee-cheese apple crumble?

Well, I don't think I've ever started a thread that's prompted such a division of opinion. :rotfl:
newleaf, this isn't a "cracker cheese", it's too toffeeey. (Oo, that's a good new word.).
I can't see me putting it in with the apples, that sounds really wrong. I could see it going in the crumble, if I could get it chopped fine enough, but it's a bit...err....sticky!
Decisions, decisions. I hate being a Libra coz you can never make your mind up. Too much balancing going on.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
I went out for a set menu meal once where the pudding was cheese and apple pie and custard. I was bracing myself for something really awful but it didn't actually taste too bad.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

I still think my cunning plan of a baked apple stuffed with STC would be a good trial run..........
I wonder if anyone from Morrisson's is watching this thread!Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -

Well, I might try that tonight. You said Granny Smith's apples - I don't know which I've got. They're just cookers from my mate.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
When working in a hotel we once discovered after service that instead of pouring custard over the apple tart we had used cheese sauce, not a word of complaint, in fact many people said how nice it had been.
Its often served that way in America so give your recipe an American name MBE and you'll be okay0 -

Well now E-lass, that's a whole new idea. What about regular apple crumble with a STC sauce? That might work, and if it was horrible I could bin the sauce and still have apple crumble. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Or spread the sauce on some crackers rather than bin it0

Add 75g butter or hard marg. Rub in (as for pastry). Add 115g porridge oats (if you have no oats, use more flour) and 80g demerara sugar.
Do it that way by all means or just tip 6oz flour 3oz butter (chopped up a little) and 3oz sugar into the food processor and whizz till it goes breadcrumby, a few seconds, stop before it starts to come together to form one lump. Hey presto tip on top of your fruit.
Variations - add a flat teaspoon of cinnamon to go with apple crumble, for a luxury version substitute 1oz ground almonds for an ounce of flour. You can make a nice savoury crumble by leaving out the sugar and adding an ounce of cheese. This is good ontop of a base of veggie stew or similar makes a good meal for vegetarians.
Think the best suggestions for your very odd sounding cheese are the things meant to be both sweet and savoury - personally I'd be inclined to try the scones or a cheesecake.M.E..... MORE than you know0 -
Where did you buy the cheese? Sounds great! I personally would try to make a cheesecake with it - blitz it with some curd/cream cheese and maybe make a toffee topping.
Cheese goes lovely with fruitcake - the stronger the cheddar the better!0 -

That's all very well, but doing it your way you need to wash your hands, and then wash the food processor. My way, making the crumble cleans your hands for you:eek:
