Or not....
Haven't had time this weekend, might do something later in the week.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Well, after much procrastination and general messing about, the day has arrived. The apples are a little soft but ok, and the cheese is still not furry.
I note that some of you use a food blender to make your crumble mix. I haven't got one, but I have got a stick blender. Can I do it mostly by hand and then finish it off with that, or is the SB only suitable for liquids? I ask because I'm going to put the cheese in the crumble mix, and I think it's going to be a bit tricky to combine, and thought the SB might make things easier. Any thoughts?
P.S. There's no point in you all sitting down and waiting, as it won't be happening until a bit later. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
I use my stick blender for everything!!!! Mind you, i make my crumble mix by hand, but im sure any type of blender will be fine!!!!0

Should I add the same amount of sugar in the crumble recipe, and how much of the cheese should I use? I'm prepared to wing it but some hints might be handy. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

I'm reading this thread backwards  so I may comment on the sugar question in a moment when I have found what you doing, but had to leap in and say I don't think your stick blender will do for crumble topping. Mine ( a 25 plus year old Moulinex model from the continent, that fits in the back of my hand mixer) says it is for liquids only, and that the 'business' part must be covered by liquid before it is switched on.0

OK. I cannot get my head around what this cheese would actually taste like, and as we are Morrison's deprived in these parts, I am not likely to find out in the foreseeable future  I love cheeses - the stronger and weirder the better.
My view is that, unless I am way off the mark, the cheese is going to be slightly sweet itself? In that case I would probably halve the amount of sugar in the crumble topping, otherwise I think the cheese taste will be overwhelmed with sweetness and you won't really taste it. We regularly have crumble topping with half quantity of sugar as DS2 has diabetes, and although it was strange at first we find it quite normal now, so you should survive the experience from that point of view - not sure about the rest of the concept though :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: By the way I haven't quite worrked how how long you have had this piece of cheese - the sugar in the toffee element is probably acting as a preservative
I think how much cheese you use depends on how strong it is, and how brave you are feeling. Good luck!0 -
