Good advice, Bitsy: I was driving last night and found that the car started to slide whenever I hit the brakes, so I had to touch the brake twice (first gently, then more firmly). I didn't know there was a name for it. I started to think maybe there was something wrong with the car, but it worked, so I knew I would be OK until I got home at least. (Think it was just the frosty road).
Take care the rest of you: it's just frosty roads here - nothing as bad as what some of you are putting up with. Please call me 'Pickle'

For all those who don't know, it takes 10 x longer to stop in snow and ice than it does on a dry road.
Soo, at 20 miles an hour the stopping distance goes from 3 car lengths to 30 (30 mph = 6 / 60 car lengths). Best to drive ultra cautiously and brake very gently.
Better still, if you can, stay indoors with hob nobs and hot tea :j0 -

If anyone knows what it's like in Swansea/Cardiff, and likely to be like Wed/Thurs, let me know as I'm supposed to be there for work on Thursday (so have to travel down on Wednesday night). I'm going by train, but don't want to get stuck!0 -
Well said... leave the roads clear for those who NEED to go out - if you can work from home, walk to a local shop etc do. And you'll avoid all the people who are driving like idiots and likely to run into you...

I went into LLanishen yesterday (outskirts of Cardiff) all the main roads were clear, but we have had more snow over night. about another 1/2". So not sure now.
Not sure what to do about school, doesn't say it's closed, but there's new snow on the icey bits, Dh said its ok if they stick to the road.Boiler pot £30.92/£10000 -

We have snow - it is not much but everything is white at the moment. I am so pleased - always have had this thing that if it snows before Christmas it will be a good year. Nothing wrong with a bit of superstition; as above so below. Hope the buses are going though because today is my teaching day so have to be in...

Morning all, fresh fall here again but main road is well gritted and it's not too bad. I can see the shop from my window so need to get moving and get myslef ready.
My shoulder is very sore today but my friend brought me round some mega strong painkillers that he got in Mexico last night, so I'm going to take those today so I can move about and don't look like the local OAP!'The road to a friends house is never long'0 -
Morning everyone.
More snow here this morning, drifts round the car to window level grrr:mad: after me digging it out yesterday.
OH got caught in an avalanche of snow falling off the conservatory roof. Looked like the abonimable snowman or a yetti lol. Not funny really, he made it out the street to work though courtesy of me digging the tyres out and digging him out a kerbside parking space.
Stay safe everyone, and for th;)ose of you who have no snow, you are soooooooooooo lucky0 -
Morning All, we have had snow overnight - so far not much and everything just looks pretty but that could all change. We are in a valley and have our own weather system. 3 miles up the road yesterday they had a blizzard and we had nothing!
Sorry for my miserable posts last week, I had the week off sick and just felt dreadful. Had to go back to work yesterday, just couldn't afford to be off but still felt bad so went to the doctors. I've had bronchitis!
Having been given a diagnosis I actually feel mentally a bit better:rotfl::rotfl:at least I know why I felt so awful and its so far not a big M.E. blip:j:jDoctor wanted to sign me off for another week, but as I don't get paid and don't qualify for anything, she told me just to listen to nature. More snow here, and it's still snowing quite hard, very picturesque, but I'm very glad I'm working at home today!
I think the reason we struggle to deal with it in this country is because it doesn't happen that often, so there's no point investing in the infrastructure like they would somewhere like Norway where it happens all the time.
Drive carefully, and not unless you absolutely *have* to (and remember to reassess your idea of what you HAVE to do!)0
