    Good Morning

Fantastic News Fantasia, Glad to hear he can now go to his Forever home.

Well I'm much better today, full of beans again :)

First day of the Easter holidays for us today, Ds1 still has to go to placement, he got himself up and made his own sandwiches and went :) there is hope for him yet :) He really seems to be enjoying it, (takes after his mum there )

I'm just going to have a quick tidy though of the dining/living room and put ironing away from yesterday, then potter in the garden for a while I think.

Hmmmmm having seen the beautiful property she lives in I would suggest that's what she's saved the money for......and to be able to retire with her husband.

As for the Tightwad Gazette, I used a lot of her hints and they were very helpful. But I remember reading an interview with her. She proudly showed the journalist her fridge to prove that she didn't waste food. In it was an apple one of her children had started and not finished, so it was put away for later (I'm not sure how I feel about that though) and bits of leftovers, but not much. The journo was there for 4 hours and in that time was offered a cup of coffee, (with no biscuit of course) and that is all. I guess I would be VERY uncomfortable to be that inhospitable.
The problem with that is when do you take the brakes off and start enjoying your savings? That style of living can become so much of a way of life that changing is impossible and you end up as the richest resident in the cemetery.

    It failed :eek::eek:

But it only failed on stuff to do with bulbs and mis-aligned headlights - so it is going to visit local mechanic guy at 1pm who has got all the relevant bits and will fix it in 20 minutes, then back to the MOT test centre for a re-test (Wonder if they will completely re-test or just check the lights??)

So all in all - MOT should be done and dusted for about £70:j

So I guess we are keeping the car then:cool:

Took DS1 with me today, explained all about MOT's and why we need to have them. He has a look around the test centre, sat on a motorbike:o and I explained how if the car cost too much to fix then we would look at scrapping it and doing without for year or so.

Thought it would be worth him being there to see "financial decisions" in action IYSWIM - thank goodness in this case it was a good result (he still talks about the day the lady in the bank told him we were going to be homeless:mad:)

I can't believe that woman actually had the nerve to say that, especially infront of children  The poor Lad :( I hope you reported her.

Right another fantastic day here and I'm still in my jammies, so I'm off to do something constructive.

I seem to be going against the grain here but I've got the Tightwad Gazette and it never came across as not being full of abundance and certainly not a hair shirt mentality <shrug>

Yup!! I am certain she has a plan for her pennies that she saves - but she doesn't have a Matrix that she can share these plans with, without being judged. Remember this was in the 90's that she did this - so she was way ahead of her time in that the rest of the world was still "buy, buy, buy".

What she has got me to think about is somethig FW was chatting about - assets and liabilities.

My house is a liability - it costs me money ................... how can I turn it around so that it makes me money.

My sewing machine - an asset, firstly because it didn't cost me anything to acquire, secondly becasue it makes me money.

The car - well I 'm still getting my head around that. In its defence I own it outright and swapped another car for it so it owes me nothing.

    My kids:eek::eek: ............................... OMG!!! are they liabilities????:rotfl:

If I didn't have you lot - I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be sharing this stuff with my friends n family IYSWIM?

OMG!!! Just realised I said I was going to bake a cake for Fantasia's visit and Iran out of time. In my defence, coffee was offered and accepted. IOU one sponge cake hon.

As for the big house. I moved 8 times in 13 years with my ex, getting a bigger house each time and I can assure you that the flashy house and car had NO bearing on how happy I was. I look back at those times and sometimes it was happy, and sometimes it wasn't (Biggest house coincided with our split but it wasn't the house that was wrong). We'd have money to move if we want when we return, but I don't want bigger and better any more......... :p

i Just want ot secure my own front door - although this house is big enough for any future plans.

Off to get DS2 from playgroup

It always amuses me that staff (costs) in accounting are considered liabilities.

But I guess book-keepers are saddos if they find that funny :rotfl:

My car in the UK is 14 years old and costs me under £300 + petrol each year to tax, insure, service and maintain. How could I contemplate trading her in for "newer model" as I'm always being told I should do? It gives me great joy when, after it has sat on the drive for 2 months I know I can get in and it will start no problem. :D

I told Popeye last week that it was actually appreciating in value while we were away as I had left it with a full tank :rotfl:

It's because we have to laugh at anything we find remotely funny or we would go stark, staring mad(der!) :rotfl::D:rotfl:

No - we call them expenses that are required to generate the income ;)

    Ok I am being indecisive.

My rent agreement runs out in the middle of May. I haven't contacted the agency to ask what is going to happen. I.e. are they assuming that I stay meaning that I can stay without new contracts being put in place (and without new reference checks) and then have one month notice period or are they assuming that I go unless I sign up new contract. And obviously us being in the middle of April I am seriously running out of time with this.

I found lovely cottage that has more space and also has bath not far away, tried to call the agent but got answer phone. If that cottage is gone I don't see there being much hope that I can find something else in this time.

On the other hand moving in the middle of May is the worst time for me to move but on the other hand I can't see myself living in this place another winter.

Off to make a cup of coffee and then try again the agency that has the cottage in their books. Please wish me luck....

We have a joke at work about who can come up with best answers to questions in review files. So far top on the list are:

    - Beats me
    - Your guess is as good as mine
    - How could I know
    - Ask revenue team
    - Because that is logical
    - Ask me again next month

(Oh well, reviews are pretty darn hard work :o)
