Yep, I second Pippi, if you click on her name and go to homepage she has an amazing blog and is always willing to give help and advice. In fact I just came from over her fence and there is lots of discussion about planting up fruit and veg at the moment. I would also recommend How to be a Gardener by Alan Titchmarsh.

Thanks for you input on Jack, He is still eating normally, running around I don't think he is in pain.

Bitsy - never thought that way about wine when c/minding. We've always a bottle in the fridge (and a bottle of red quite possibly on top as well!). Oh well, been doing the job 9 years now, not going to change old habits now.

Souk more special vibes for your mum. She sounds like a strong lady, but positive vibes are all good.
Thank you so, so much to everyone for caring about Bailey, enough to even give him a mention. I've actually thought about applying to adopt him also  but am giving due consideration to my emotional reaction to his plight and my financial situation.
My heart tells me to go for it, I could be succesful, but I have to be financially secure enough to have the means to platinum insure another dane, and at the moment things are so up in the air, I can't commit to that argh. But will stay positive with the job front. What will be, will be, and the Universe will intervene on my behalf - if it is meant to be. Onwards and upwards girls and guys. xx

That is a hard one Fantasia. I would love to take on another Dane (preferably a rescue) Great Dane Care is not far from me (well about one and half hours drive but I do that regularly for work now) and have thought about volunteering with them. It is hard to seperate the emotion from the rational. Insurance for Moo is now quite expensive due to his age, I would suspect with the history of Bailey that it would be expensive to insure him and in my experiene they exclude any existing conditions so it may be that you would be better to get the lower insurance and save up the extra per month. Also remember if you are on low income PDSA help out. Some dane rescues will also help out if you get stuck. Is he being fostered at the moment? I would expect that if there is going to be a court case then they dont usually allow rehoming until it resolved. I am sure that the right thing to do will come to you. If I had space and time I would have been on the phone asking them about him. Oh, not to mention Trench who we saw the other night............ he is gorgeous.
