Any suggestions would be gratefully received Cheri, especially if it means we keep our little lad a bit longer, but I'm not sure whether we are being cruel keeping him alive either.
Well a pile of stuff bagged and ready for the shop in the morning, will see if I'm allowed to take pictures of my bit
Claire, I echo EH. I have had dogs all of my life but only two that I have had to make the decision on. The only thing that I will say is that you are a kind person, you will just know when the time is right. One day Jack will look at you in a certain way and there will be your answer. Listen to the vet, although they will rarely tell you to make that decision unless Jack is suffering they may "hint" that it is getting to be near the time. If Jack is still managing to get around and take part in family life then he is ok. For me I made the decisions when the dogs became incontinent, couldn't take part in games around the house and were just generally exhausted.
It is not something I relish, I dont envy you but this is all part of sharing your life. My OH has never had to go through this and I know that it is going to break his heart when we lose Moo.

Sorry I don't know how to help Jack apart from keep doing what you are already doing. Just give him lots of love and try not be anxious about his situation.
We are off to a Saturday school this morining, then den building with cubs and then dinner at Indian courtesy of BF's friends (potential MIL babysitting). We won't be back until late tomorrow evening so wishing everyone a good weekend.
Oh I have got lots of replies from the QT forum for Bailey. Some practitioners have replied as well"Everything will be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end."

Claire, am really sorry about Jack. but Cheri is right, only you can know your own dog.
If he still has a good quality of life, isn't in pain, or being anti-social in the house (peeing and poohing), if he's eating properly etc and is still a happy dog then thats great.
They do have a 'way of telling' you, a certain look and demeanour and you just 'know' (I think anydog lover will echo this).
I think the worst thing people can do is keep a dog going for their own benefit (and I know you are not doing that so please don't be offended). But I have known people go to the vets and have all kinds of treatment for their animals and they think they are doing it out of love when really its because they cannot bear to let them go.
A vet can only advise you as to whether an animal is suffering or not, but they always leave a final decision to the owner (in most cases anyway). ANd I just feel its very sad when the inevitable is prolonged for the owners benefit.
Jack sounds happy and hearty for his age, and while he has a problem, you are doing your very best to help him and keep him comfortable, and thats the most any one can do.
I do wish you a very positive outcome. xx0 -

Yes, hardest decision in the world. Second hardest thing? Going in with them while it's done - when we had to make the call with our first Cavalier KC Spaniel I was about 13 I think, Dad would have handed him over and left (like most men rubbish with anything emotional and we were all so upset anyway) but there was no way I was going to abandon the little chap at the end like that so poor Dad had to come in as well. Second time was with a very large and gormless labrador (rejected from Guide Dog training for being too clumsy!) and he knew, and there is no doubt in my mind that he was grateful too. Worse by far is losing an animal unexpectedly though - our second Cavvy died under anaesthetic at the vets aged just 5. She would have been nearly 14 now so quite probably still with us under other circumstances, and I still miss her now. We lost her and one of the cats within two months - it was a really sad time.
She was rather a cutie...
(yes, it IS a carrot she's gnawing on - she loved almost all fruit and veg and one of her favourite naughty tricks was stealing blackberries straight from the bush - she only ever took the ripe ones though!)🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Sorry I've been AWOL for a few days (and broken my pledge to post every day). A symptom of both my chronic conditions is fatigue so sometimes I just have to stop, rest and allow it to pass.
I've bounced back today and cleared some more paper off my desk. It's heartening to see some space appearing at last. Once the desk is clear I can gradually move piles onto it from other areas of my home so they can be worked through as well. Yippeeeee!
Souk - how is your mum, is she home from hospital?
Northernlas - network marketing is great business model for building up passive income. Will hop over to the other site later to see which company you've joined.
Raquela - you sound as though you're really working towards your goals, go girl!
Lara - congratulations on passing your exam.
Fantasia - look forward to hearing the outcome of the job interview, and lots of healing energy being sent to Bailey.Decluttering Awards: 🏅🏅0 -
A plea for help to all Matrix members.
I am keen to start growing my own fruit and veg but am clueless where to start - we are talking completely and utterly clueless .
Does anyone know of a good website or blog where I can start to learn?
Many thanks, Thriftyxxx0 -
Thrifty - Go and look for PippiLongStocklings thread. She is an avid gardener and teaches too, up in the Orkneys. She would be happy to help I am sure. She also has a blog.:j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0
