Mostly working - well done! Only 'krust' is a bit out of place - this means 'cross'. But you are doing better than my husband of 20 years.

Fantasia - If service life suits him could he apply for one of the others if he is being invalided out of the Army? I don't think being able to run miles in full kit is required in the Air Force for example (but could be wrong). Sending hugs to you and your family.

Cheri - Hope you got that picture earlier :)

Cricket - I personally don't think it matters what anyone believes in as long as it helps them through the good and bad times in life. It could be the man in the moon for all I care :D I am also happy that not everyone believes in the same god or follows the same religion or beliefs as it is our differences and experiences that make us who we are and gives us things to talk about and the ability to learn from each other. How boring life would be if we were all clones of each other.

Bitsy - Gutted for your other half :( When I have faced life's knock backs in the past I used to hate it when my Mum said these things happen for a reason as you don't want to hear it at the time. But she was usually right and there was something better around the corner, even if the bend in the road was a bit longer than you hoped!

Hugs for those that need them and those that don't!

Fantasia My brother grew up wanting nothing other than to be a Royal Marine like his dad. Went to join up at the first opportunity after spending 2 years training. His friend decided to join up with him. He passed everything with flying colours, the interview, the medical, the fitness test everything. Even the major came to the house and checked out his bedroom and interviewed the whole family. Then his medical records showed that he had a skiing accident at 14 and had to have an operation on his knee so they turned him down. He was devastated. Even more so when his best friend got in and went on to be in the SBS. It took him ages to get over it. But he did. For now be angry (out of sight of him) but just be there for him. My friend locked herself in her flat for a week and drunk herself silly when she didnt get into the police force. All you can do is let him deal with it in his own way and stand by to pick him up when he is ready. As Maty says there may be other avenues open to him. How about private security jobs (he might end up guarding a celebrity as my brothers friend did when he came out of the marines. Cant say who but he arrived in LA just around the same time as a particularly high profile couple who like fashion and football;))

Missed the picture, my camera - which is usually on my desk because I am transferring pictures for work, was missing. Still not found it. Damn - it would have been a good shot for the challenge this week. Sorry EH think I missed the deadline again.

Claire - If no-one else has stepped forward, I know about html (just msg me and I will look at it early next week ... sorry I have just got back in UK but I am on a training course this weekend)

Bitsy - Now OH has calmed down, the best thing he can do is to ask his employer for specific feedback e.g. an email saying thanking them for the opportunity of meeting with them, saying how disappointed he is and then asking for specific feedback.

Basically - they have decided that either
    1. He failed the 3 interview questions (can you do the job, do you want to do the job, will you fit in)
    2. They had a better candidate on the day
    3. They had a candidate picked already and the interview process was an expensive waste of time. Except, it wasn't because if he gets this answer, he knows that it is time to learn, get whatever training freebies he can from this company and MOVE ON :)

Back in UK, have come from a sunny 28 degrees to 5 degrees in Buxton this afternoon (at least it was dry and now snow ... er yet ;))

Fantasia - positive vibes coming your way for you and DSS.

Slightly off the wall, but could your Lent challenge be to keep his spirits up and help him see that there is life after the army. I am sure that there are loads of places that would see the experience he has gained as invaluable.

Should you wish a CV drafting for him - please let me know (I have reviewed quite a few in my time and can give constructive criticism) and I am happy do do one for him. Actually, I shall be coming north in the next couple of weeks as I have a workshop venue in Edinburgh to find (I shall do over to the other side and explain more).

Maybe I can stop by for coffee?

  • Fantasia so sorry to hear your news. The skills and discipline your DS as learned in the army would be highly valued for many professions and he should identify them on his cv as transferrable skills. Not sure if it is still the same these days but the standard references received when i left the forces were not in great details so it might be worth him trying to secure a personal reference from his CO or someone else who knew him well while he was training for future use.

I routinely put C of E on all my forms - hadn't thought in that much depth so will have a serious think about what I put on my form this time
