Cheery_Daff wrote: »Goodness you lot, I'd never dream of throwing away anything that belonged to Mr Daffs without telling him  Probably why our house is full of stuff :rotfl: He most definitely *is* a Bringer-Home-Of-Interesting-Things - often from skips or that others are throwing out. So we have lots of things - but whenever anyone is after a specific 'something or other', we've usually got one
You have to Cheery. They are so dim that they don't realise they don't need it, and too lazy to go looking for the same stuff.
As an example, about 8 months ago, I forced !!!!!! to reduce the space his clothes took up. Little bedroom, he was using all of my wardrobe and 3 of the 5 drawers in the chest of drawers. No space for more furniture, so my clothes were in boxes and piles and generally annoying me.
He obliged. He sorted through his clothes and produced two bags of things he didn't wear much, but thought he might in the winter etc.
Good back to 50/50 share of clothes storage space!
I tripped over said bags of clothes for a couple of months, and then they were placed in the cupboard of doom (you all have them, admit it! Confession is good for the soul!)
I chucked them about about 2 weeks ago. The fool didn't need the clothes, he just needed to be reminded.
I wonder if he will want any of them when he packs to go on holiday next weekend <eeek>0 -
Good Morning
Busy day ahead of me again today.
Was woken at 9 (after tossing and turning most of the night and waking up having what I think were panic attacks) Barnardo's for ds2, We hadn't had a letter to say what time he was being picked up or nothing, so poor thing was woken up and practically chucked out of the house before he had time to wake up lol.
Ds1 has a tummy upset againhope I don't get it this time.
I have had a quick clean around, so just got to get dressed and go up the market. See my mate to go through Sat and what I am expected to do.
I bought yesterday some small tool storage from the £1 shop, ideal for making up little starter jewellery kits for the market, does anyone have any idea how I get the sticky from the label from on the box?Boiler pot £30.92/£10000 -
Congrats Marru!
Well done Thrifty, hope DS was OK.
Souk glad you were there for your friend and got through the day OK.
I'm a hoarder of useful stuff too, thankfully my OH wouldn't throw my stuff away secretly (and I wouldn't do it to him either). He does complain a bit but yesterday he was pleasantly surprised when I produced just the right electrical connector left over from when I did some wiring 20 years ago :rotfl:
Fantasia, glad Leyla is blooming under your care! As to why you didn't do it ages ago - well then you wouldn't have been able to have Leyla would you?
Claire hope you manage to stay on top of things!
As for removing sticky stuff, you can get special remover (there's some called 'label-off' or something I think which is quite good, though I'm not too sure where you'd get it). Otherwise, depending on what the box is made of, you could try a solvent like nail polish remover or alcohol (meths), or soaking it in hot water, or even warming the label with a hairdryer or something which might make it easier to peel off in one go.
Have a good day all. Grey, damp and gloomy here.0 -
Afternoon all
Hope you get your sticky labels sorted Claire - lots of good suggestions there from Troglydyte.
Tmif - you crack me up with all your descriptions of !!!!!! - bless him.
Thanks for all the good wishes for ds. Well ds came home to say that yesterday had been 2% useful - I just hope he didn't tell the course organisers that. I had to sit with him and explain that he was gaining skills just by walking into an office, sitting down around a table with people he doesn't know and talking and working with them. I explained that he should think of this as practise for working in unknown environments. So success and progress - 1. he didn't walk out and stayed the whole 3 hours and 2. he's going back next week :T.
Ramble alert...
Are there any keen knitters out there in the matrix that can point me towards some good websites or blogs? When I sit down in the evening I have got into the habit of spending a couple of hours on MSE or just aimlessly browsing the net. At the moment I am obsessing about saving money and paying off our debt. We have good solid foundations and money-saving principals in place - spending hours and hours on MSE is not going to make it happen any faster. I need to clear my head.
Soooo I was thinking about a craft that I could do for a couple of hours in the evening whilst watching tv or a dvd. Most evenings I am kn*ckered so a craft that can be done easily is what I am after. I make cards, jewellery and sew but don't want to get everything out only to have to put it away an hour later iyswim. I have never learnt to crochet or cross-stitch so knitting it is. I don't want a big project such as a jumper but am thinking of smaller projects. If any of you lovely ladies have any ideas to get me started I would be really grateful.

Well done to Marru for the exams and to Souk for being there for your friend. Also to Thrifty's DS - didn't he do well, and :T for him going back next week too!
Fantasia - she's still looking gorgeous!!
TMIF I sympathise completely on your problems with stuff getting hoarded! I realised some time ago that so far as MrEH was concerned, if I wait for him to throw away newspapers I will wait for months. It will reach the stage where they cover both arms and half the seat on a sofa, and even then when I raise the issue it will become a huge deal. I have now started popping the past 3 - 4 days worth on the sofa, underneath a book which I know lives there anyway - every few days the ones below the book get binned, and any others that are accumulated get shifted to below the book.....apart from (and this is important so anyone else wanting to use the ploy, take note) the paper from the previous day that needs to stay right where it was left. This way he doesn't appear to notice the going of the others! Also trying to teach the coursework relating to "Washing goes in the laundry bin, not on the bedroom floor, to be washed" has failed miserably - it's actually less stressful for me to deal with picking it up myself and putting it there than to keep getting stressy about him not doing so! Path of least resistance....and all that!
Another 24 items being decluttered from here over the next few days as they are sold on eBay - mostly small stuff (I used to be a keen member of the Queen fan club, and still love the music, but no longer feel I need some of the "stuff" that goes with it) like badges etc but still, every little helps. Also flogged three DVD's (Harry Potter) that someone else was just slinging out - I didn't expect them to sell but for £1.50 each some people have bargains and I have made £4.50 for nothing! Also 4 items of Clinique makeup from bonus time offers went for over £10 so I'll list stuff like that again. I was surprised it fetched that much.
Having quite a constructive day here so far!Hope all is well with everyone else!

Trifty - try putting "knit for charity" in Google and see what comes up. Is that something you had in mind?
And thank you all so much for congratulations - means lot to me

Soaking stickly labels with alcohol may get the sticker off. Try neat vodka! I think the acetone in nail varnish remover would melt the plastic...Mortgage free as of 12/08/20!

Thrifty - get yourself over to Ravelry! You have to register, but it's full of free patterns, people sharing their projects, forums and everything - lots to keep you occupied! I think they also have challenges and knit-alongs0

I knit for: http://www.lisasstars.org.uk/ - tiny hats and such for stillborn babies. They also have a facebook group with simple patterns on.0 -
I was going to say Ravelry for knitting...
I used to be a dedicated knitter, but then I discovered x-stitch. You don't have to learn anything - it's so simple. I find it much more relaxing, I like to x-stitch and watch the tv... have plenty of patterns for you to have a try with0
