Congratulations JC! Well done on the new job. Don't be scared of handing in your notice. It is a fact of life for any organisation with staff. Also, when I give my notice in at jobs (and yes, I have done it a fair bit!
) people expect me to sit back on my laurels and not do much... so i do enjoy messing with their heads and becoming super-efficient worky person! Mwaahahahahahaha!
Totally spins people out!!
Hugs to everyone who needs them, positive vibes by the bucketload, and see you on Monday. I have another massive to do list and only 6 hours to get it sorted. Nothing like a bit of pressure! Heigh-ho!Have an excellent weekend. I am going to a Ceildh (apologies for the rubbish spelling!) and then a Church Party on Sunday. Ooh, get me... party animal!!

Good luck Gemzie x
I might need to request a few Matrix vibes myself todayI'm SO close to the end of this PhD, and it just feels like every time I think I'm nearly there a few more days get added
I know after 7 years a few more days won't make a difference! But it's so disheartening. My supervisor read my conclusions chapter, and said he thinks it still needs 'a fair bit more work'
The whole thing is officially due in on Wednesday, the examiner said he'd read it first and tell me if anything else needed doing, but I'm running out of time for him to do that.
Basically, I am a complete gibbering wreck (snivelling one too - sore throat and nose is running, pah!). My head is whirling round with 'I can't do it' and 'what if they tell me off for handing it in late' and 'what if I hand it in and it STILL isn't good enough'. Rationally I know that I CAN do it, it's just a matter of going over and over and OVER it (and asking for help), they ARE NOT going to tell me off (I am an adult, after all! And so what if they DO tell me off? I never have to see them again!), and if I hand it in and it STILL isn't good enough, they can either tell me I've failed (which they won't), or give me another 3 months, which is not the end of the world. I know all that, but just can't seem to snap my head out of the silly loop!
So, in the spirit of positivity, I'm going to take a few actions, because sometimes I can manage action even when I can't manage positive thinking, and sometimes one leads to the other.
* I have taken today as annual leave, so I now have 3 full days to work on this. Mr Daffs is out for the next two evenings too, so I can work in the evenings as well if necessary.
* I am going to pull my head out of the sand and read the comments my supervisor sent - ignoring the 'it needs a fair bit more work' one and just looking at what he *actually* suggests
* at 9.30 I will ring him, tell him how long I have left, and ask what he suggests is my best plan of action
* I will make a plan of work for the day, and spend more of the day actually working than agonising
* I will also drink a lemsip
* I will also ring the dentist to see if they have any cancellations, I have an appointment for next Friday, but my filling fell out 10 days ago, and it's starting to hurt now! Was brave and rang yesterday, but they advised me to call today. I REALLY don't like ringing the dentist
Sorry to be gloomy, I am SO close to the end and feel like it will never go away. I hate it that people keep asking me if I've finished, and I have to say noI hate feeling scared, and like I'm in hiding. I need to just see this as work, rather than some kind of moral failing, but right now I'm struggling to do that!
So, a few positive vibes wouldn't go amiss if people have some spare lying around. Lots of deep breaths today I think, and lots of cups of tea! :coffee:

HUGE POSITIVE VIBES coming through t'internet for you Cheery, it sounds ultra stressful and I'm full of admiration for you for having got this far.
Take little bites, don't try and eat the elephant in one go. You're bound to be very emotionally caught up in this, it's been 7 precious years of your life, so hugs from all of us Matrix Mama's (and Papa's, Mike, what are you?), put some good tunes on, maybe go into a different room to the one you normally study in, seems to work for me, and take a few deep breaths before you launch yourself into the first of your last successful days of cracking this PhD.
You know you can do it and we're all here to support and cheer you on xxx0 -
GO CHEERY! GO CHEERY! GO CHEERY!
(What? Stop Staring at me! I am cheering Cheery!!)
You can do it lovely. Only a little bit further!!"A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort"Herm Albright 1876-19440 -
Yesterday was my last day at work so I have been celebrating for a couple of days and not been around much. My you have all been busy.
Congratulations JC Great new about the job. And don't worry about handing in your notice, as Crickett says they are used to it and will have to sort something out.
Crickett -very positive and the party sounds like a wonderful plan. I am going to really concentrate on the SW stuff and we will get there
I have a retriever but he is a rescue dog too so loving the doggie tales
Gemmzie - sorry can't think of a solution to the car problem, sorry that it was the worst time for the MOT failure, is there no way it can be patched up to limp to April?
I LURVE purple and fully intend to make the most of wearing it!
Happy weekened all :j0 -
Oh Cheery - rubbish about the tooth - do ring the dentist you will feel more able to cope if you are not in pain, and I think toothache is worse than childbirth! At least I could see an end to that.
Sending many positive vibes - you can do it and I know you will do it.
Just go for it but look after you at the same time.0 -
I don't come here often, but had to add my vibesLots of positive energy for Cheeryand go and phone the dentist0

Awwww, thanks you lovely lot
It really does make a difference to know I'm not just sat here by myself
And thanks craftyscholar for telling me to ring the dentist, I haven't done it yet(although I suspect even if they have got a cancellation they won't do anything as I'm so full of cold!)

Could the cold and tooth ache be linked - ie do you need some antibiotics first??
