When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit.
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

In awe of all the inspirational words
And this one is totally of topic but though Cherisong might like it (if she hasn't already heard it.:o
We have Cockers and Shih-Tzus, Chihuahuas, and Poodles,
Golden Retrievers and Labradoodles.
They're all just fine, you won't hear us complain
They just don't compare to the Mighty Great Dane.
My loyal companion, you stand so tall
Come down off my shoulders before we both fall.
Your water bowl's the size of a childrens pool
There aren't enough towels to mop up the drool.
If you sit next to him, he'll just start pushin'
Hogging every inch of the sofa cushion.
If his belly starts rumbling, clear out the room,
The resulting odor could just be your doom.
Expensive to feed? You bet they are
More costly than putting gas in your car.
You must have a yard thats nice and roomy,
For a flower bed's ruined when they get the zoomies.
They'll get in your face and let go a burp,
Well versed in the art of how to "counter surf".
Those four big paws can hold lots of mud,
I hope you're not partial to a nice clean rug.
When out on a walk, people will prattle,
You just smile and reply...nope...no saddle.
They look so peaceful as they lie on the floor,
Keeping you awake with their thunderous snore.
Just one look in those soulful eyes,
It really will come as no surprise...
They fill our hearts and homes with love,
Surely they are sent from heaven above.
How can you not fall for these GENTLE GIANTS?
It really doesn't require a degree in Rocket Science.
If you don't understand, I just can't explain
How nothing compares to the Mighty Great Dane!
Some of its total rubbish but some of it is very apt0 -
Thanks girls for the support about turning 40 soon
I'm not too worried about it really, just other people are mithering me about how I'm going to celebrate it and I have a block about organising things for myself, give me a party for a friend/DD and I'm in my element.......
Also, as I've started dating someone with a very severe illness, I'm fast learning about seizing the moment and making the most of him and the good days...
I love the wearing purple poem, one of my favourites0 -

That made me go Yep, yeah, Hahaha, erm yes, :mad:saddle! :Dsofa :eek:smells
Thanks, Moo might just share that in his blogland if you dont mind! Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0 -

The saddle remark used to drive me nuts. Every single person who said it must have thought they were saying something original :rotfl:
Moo is more than welcome to use it in blogland.0 -
Dogs, birthdays, poetry and back to doggies again - you guys have been busy:D
Makes my day of housework, homework and haircuts seem very tame :rotfl:
Fantasia - can we come and visit when you get your "new baby"?? DS2 could probably ride a Dane like a pony. I'd love to borrow your hubbie for an hour so to get some plans organised.
On MSE front I have managed to create a "moveable alphabet" for DS2 - and instead of it costing me over £200 I made it for £6.00. :T. Its one of the foundation pieces of Montessori practice - but I figured Maria Montessori taught in a Slum tenament with whatever she could lay her hands on. Well in her spirit I am doing the same;)
One piece of material per month and I should be able to give DS2 as great a start as DS1 had - at a fraction of the cost.
Off to put grumpy ones to bed - closely followed by big grumpy one. Have you every had a day when you really annoy yourself with how grumpy you are? For no real reason, you just are. Think I need to put myself on the naughty step :rotfl:
MGFINALLY AND OFFICIALLY DEBT FREESmall Emergency Fund £500 / £500

I'm intrigued by the moveable alphabet, am going to have to google it.
And, I agree, bed is the best place to be when grumpy (and at other times too)
