Sorry Gemzie we posted the same time

Can you do without a car till April or are you a member of a credit union? they would give you a loan and you also save with them as you are paying the loan back

Car is required for both my jobs - I get £100 allowance towards running one from one job until March so that helps. Not a member of a credit union - I don't think they lend out for the first few months.

Is there any way you can use public transport to get around for a bit? Or borrow your parents car when you really really need a car? Any friends you can borrow a car from? Or any REALLY good friends who could lend you some money to get a car?

Credit Unions are a good idea, I joined mine a couple of months ago as it's good for a small emergency loan.

Just checking in with my 'must dos of the year': have been trying to get work experience with a few places and have had a contact ring a friend in an appropriate place who wants me to come in for 'a chat'. :j This has been put back to next week, but I am hopeful, although I can't afford to rest on my laurels and need to apply elsewhere. Kick my bum to get off it and continue applying, peeps! *insert bum kicking smiley*

What kind of work experience are you looking for pickle. We might all have "alternative" suggestions to gain experience if it is for a CV etc. Good luck with next week.

Crickett - sounds like a great idea to me. Set a goal, break it down and work towards it methodically :T My friend is a concert pianist if you are looking for something extra special, although I am not sure how much she charges. Sounds like your harmonic quartet will be handy too. If you are doing a cocktail party have you thought about theming it? I would go for 20s glitz and glamour or 40s jazz night......... sorry I am getting excited about your dream with my own little fantasies. I feel really excited for you and love planning and organising things like this so think you will have a great time doing that and the SW thing will become a part of the planning and a side issue I reckon.

Haha! - Gemmzie that post made me giggle. I am in a similar position - looking to buy a new car but dont want to take out a loan. Do you have any balances on credit cards that you could shuffle around and get a 0% deal on? ONLY do this if you can afford to pay it back though. Good idea re the credit union too Claire. Or is there any of those deals around to lease a car. Not sure how that works though.

Everybody I just noticed that the Dalai Llama is doing a live webcast on Sunday morning 9am entitled Finding Happiness in tough times. I have his book the Art of Happiness and I have read it dozens of times and bought it for friends. Highly recommended.

Positive vibes to everybody who needs them (and hugs).
Noticed too that we have some absent friends, Winky the House Elf has'nt posted in a while. Although she did update a thread on another board a a few weeks back.
She certainly did'nt have an easy time with her delivery and had some health stuff going on afterwards. Can we please all send some positivity to Winky.

Winky - if you've been lurking, we are thinking of you and hope to see you back when you have time. Life is pretty busy with a new baby.
take care of you, OH and baby Saskia

Need to be able to transport young people in a car - am borrowing mum's for today but no business use so will have to rely on colleagues for today. I think we may be able to ask a family member, good vibes on that one please!

The ironic thing is, my bank offered me a loan yesterday! I have nearly cleared my credit cards and have over £6k available on them but....they need to be empty for the mortgage :( And leases involve a credit check so still a no go :(

Sorry Gemmzie no idea what to suggest then. Do you cards need to be clear to obtain the mortgage or would they not take into account the amount that you have available to you. What is to stop you spending on the cards as soon as your mortgage is approved otherwise? Have you taken professional advice from a broker? Do you have to cancel all the cards once they are clear. That sounds a bit odd to me if that is the case but I am no expert as things have changed a lot over the last couple of years.

Fantasia, what a lovely post. I have also noticed the Sea78 has been missing for a while, again she did post elsewhere so hopeful she is lurking. if you are lurking Sea78 come out wherever you are.

No I am not just spending time surfing - well I am but facebook and twitter form part of my job and I keep spotting things that I think the matrix ladies would be interested in.

Received a phone call from Daneline Rescue again and they are going to contact me within the next 2 weeks to organise for someone to come and do a home check. Fair enough bearing in mind they are an English rescue and I'm in Scotland.
So if we are approved at the home check, then we are well on the way to re-homing a Great-Dane.
Positive vibes would be greatly appreciated.
I know this isn't much compared with the some of the things people are achieving, but it is something that I very much want to do and is very close to my heart.
