Afternoon
MG sounds like you have your work cut outgood luck
Well I am sorting ds2 card stuff out today, to see what he has and what he doesn't have, and trying to put in in order and condense it into less boxes to save space, He sold a few cards at the faarmers market at the weekend, so needs to make more but the stuff is so igly piggly packed that he doesn't know what he has and don't. So plan is to pack cards, envelopes and cellophane bags together, backing papers together etc.Boiler pot £30.92/£10000 -
KC - you are welcome. I am going to do a couple of them as well. Courtesy of my friend.
MG - well I often wake up in the early hours full of ideas so I have to just get up and have a cuppa and write them down. Couldnt settle so thought I would check out facebook - friend put that link up and I thought of you.
Now on the list you have - create garden. Would that not be part of the curriculum for DS? So can it not form part of the working day with him. IE can he design it on paper/computer (artistic element) - plan and research how to get the materials (planning, organising, communication, negotiation etc) - set the budget (maths)- raise the funds (community work - are there LETS schemes to tap into there?)etc etc etc. Oh and while he is at it could he do mine? Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0 -

3am is my time - cos thats when I used to finish work in the clubs. So if I've got an issue that needs solving the idea always wakes my up at 3am. Scribble it down and off to sleep again.

The Garden "should" be a huge part of his curriculum - the "other classroom".
Between researching, planning, building, budgeting, sowing seeds, transplanting seedlings, planting his "square foot garden", maintenance, art (drawing plans and drawing plants) harvesting, timetabling, science, botany, woodwork .................. as well as the enjoyable harvesting and cooking and preserving.
Well I think we should just about cover all the bases
He's also really into the science of hydroponics - so may have to do some research to see if thats something we can do in our teeny scrap of garden.
Mind you he has got his heart set on a greenhouse - so local peeps please keep your eyes and ears open for a "free to uplift" one pretty please in the free papers on freecycle.
Can you all also save for me any empty 2l plastic pop bottles as he wants to use the tops as cloches.
Just sorted out 40 weeks worth of French lessons - so I guess my brain is beginning to work a wee bit again.
And got hold of two handwriting books that I have been searching for for months (in the window of Oxfam this morning just waiting for me) So theres 40 weeks of handwriting exercises too.

Hi all, Hi MG
I know I don't post very often but I read and keep up as best I can every day.
I felt I wanted to post today as I have been thinking a lot about your current situation, MG. You know that you have worked so hard, you already have the foundations for something for the future and today you have obviously cleared your head and started again. Yay!!!
It has taken me months to shake myself and start again. Little steps et al!
So, you are number one and should always remember that. Don't be hard on yourself, be kind (see my counselling is actually working! That's the issue I have real problems with, being kind to myself, but it works).
At work I have to explain to people about the working environment working with and adapting to the individual not the individual working around and adapting to the environment (basic ergonomics but in my words!!) so I think that's basically what you are doing now and it's got to be the best way.
You have all of the people on this forum and the Matrix who can listen, advise and help (there are so obviously countless number of more people who dont post) and they never fail.
Enjoy yourself, keep smiling and everything really will work out okay.
I have a piece called 'Right Here' by Ralph Marston pinned up next to my workstation and I read it almost every day (not memorised though! Need to work on that still!) and I think I followed a link posted by another matrix devotee.
But you probably know that already!
You are right where you should be at this moment. Now it is time to move on to what is next. Whether your life up to this point has been easy or whether it has been difficult, you are here just the same. And your destiny does not care about the past.
Anyway, going to sign off now and keep smiling cos it's infectious!

DIY hydroponics with 2L plastic pop bottles (perhaps not ideal as there may be better guides) but shows it can be done for next to nothing, or with things that can be gleaned on freecycle etc.0 -
MG - have just caught up with the last two days posts. So am sending you (((Hugs))) plus virtual hobnobs and a glass of whatever you fancy
.
Matrix ladies - there is so much warmth and wisdom on this thread, it's uplifting - you are all stars.
Nice to see your head clearing MG and starting to move forward in your new direction - just remember there's no rush, one baby-step at a time. Love the wisdom of "chunking" things together. Great idea about incorporating the garden plan into your home-ed curriculum. Why don't you do the same with your "schoolroom". Just think of the life-skills and the "problem-solving" techniques your ds will gain in creating his own schoolroom not to mention all the areas of the curriculum you will automatically cover.
I guess what I'm saying is don't fall into the trap of feeling you need a "pristine, fully-functioning classroom" and "working garden" before you start - the kitchen table will work just fine to start with.
Maybe have two days a week, working with the Kindi teacher and three days home-ed.
Also love the idea of dovetailing your own online business along the lines of montessori home-ed teaching and learning - definitely killing two birds with one stone there.
Have you seen these two articles here and here, although not exact mirrors of your situation, they will resonate.
Just a quick word about feeling down - firstly, it's not surprising after the last year / couple of months. Next, keep an eye on it, if you crash back down, off to the docs with you, young lady :rotfl:.
Take care and will pop back later to see how you are doing, Thriftyxxx0 -
Hello everyone,
Just here for a few moments with a suggestion for MemoryGirl.
If you have access to a digital camera would it be a possible project for DS1 to take a series of pictures of any changes you make to your house and garden, and his own projects as Memory Girl’s Mini Montessori School takes shape?
They would provide an excellent family record for you all, and then if you decide to make a blog or anything more formal in the future you would have plenty of material to choose from.
Sending positive wishes to everyone in the Matrix.
Take care,

MG - strange I wake on the dot of 3 as well. I always know what time it is before even looking at the clock. I call it the witching hour!.
Shame that I am not so much closer. I (read for that Mr C) has an 8ft by 10 ft greenhouse lying in the garden. Been there for 6 years. He had great plans to turn his garden into a kitchen garden but life was not kind to him (until I arrived of course). He has now decided the garden is too small and there is too much work in having a greenhouse and he wants low maintenance. Understandable after the years he has had. If anybody can think of a cost free way of getting the greenhouse up there you are welcome to it. Please note though I dont know if all the bits are there. I would offer to courier it but Mr C will be finishing work tomorrow so I will be tightening the belt a lot over the coming months. This would have worried me this time last year but for some reason I see it as a major opportunity to move our lives forward. That is, in no part due to seeing how the lovely ladies on this thread manage in the face of much greater adversity.
Oooo Yellow Glow you posted at the same time. Had to edit - love the idea of a blog. There is a way for DS to also look at setting up his own little business as he could blog and earn via that. Great idea. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Found this and just thought I'd share. Love it.
The Universe speaks in many languages, but only one voice.
The language is not French or German, or Arabric, or Chinese or Russian.
It speaks in the language of hope; It speaks in the language of trust; It speaks in the language of strength,... and the language of compassion.
It is the language of the heart and the language of the soul. But always, it is the same voice. It is the voice of our ancestors, speaking through us, And the voice of our inheritors, waiting to be born.
It is the small, still voice that says: We are one. No matter the blood; No matter the skin; No matter the country; No matter the world; We are one. No matter the pain; No matter the darkness; No matter the loss; No matter the fear; We are one.
Gathered together in common cause. we recognise this singular truth, and this singular rule: That we must be kind to one another, because each voice enriches us and ennobles us, and each voice lost diminishes us.
We are the voice of the Universe, the soul of creation, the fire that will light the way to a better future.
I think it sums up the Matrix as well0 -
MG - It might be a tad radical but have you thought of a shed in the garden that could be your new classroom?? You could insulate with polystyrene / rockwool and the boys could help you paint the inside ...
Also, I have a small plastic green house that I bought in a sale about 18 months ago. If you want it I can post as it is still in it's packaging. Alternatively, I hope to be in Edinburgh in the spring, so if it can wait I could drive it to you!
