Seconding libraries for books - I was at my library on Saturday, and a young woman in her 20s was taking out about 30 children's books, it took ages - but I was absolutely fascinated (and it was raining
) it ended up being quite interesting to watch what was going on.

Yep and don't forget all the freebie children things at the library- toddler sing/story time etc. You can kill two birds with one stone. Libraries also get rid of perfectly good books when they are bringing in new stock- always worth an ask.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

MG, just popping in late as usual, have just read your decision and agree it is the right one. I really couldn't see how you could make it all work, with so much preparation required and so much travel and time away - I have just switched to working at home to be around for my DD.
You have proved that you have what it takes to do it in person when the time is right, but this is also an ideal opportunity to be at the forefront of the revolution in communication and distance learning. I would love to be a guinea pig! This is definitely not a failure but just a modification of the way to reach your goal.
I hope the mentors are fully behind you and help you to reformulate a plan for success on this basis - and in the meantime I hope you can manage to pay the bills. Tell us - what can we do to help?
Susan, congrats on being a new granny again!
By the way this evening I just started a course on furniture restoration - a birthday gift from OH. I'm hooked already, it's more fun than I expected, the people are lovely and now I am going to be trawling round auctions and junk shops in search of restoration projects!0 -

Personally, as a teacher, i really wouldn't bother buying books- Local libraries are a good source of curriculum stuff.
In all honesty, charity shops usually box up really good stuff and will let you have boxes of Key Stage appropriate materials for about a tenner. I get loads for my pupils like that and they really appreciate it. I also would check out car boots.
Primary Schools are always buying in New Schemes and the old- often better stuff- is left languishing at the back of cupboards. Have an ask and see what they have or are willing to let you have. I have full schemes of work for GCSE which are a bit boring, but great, as they are thorough and go into everything needed in detail.
A lot of the modern schemes, as in the books- are taught in bits- and need lots of support material- no wonder the kids don't learn!! They really should stick to basics ( but that is my personal bug bear)
Anything i can help with i will.
Regards
Bob x
Thanks hon - I'm gong in today to get his PLP (his folder that records exactly what he has covered). The school already ticked all the boxes for the new "Curriculum for Excellence" sin in the interests of keeping it simple I will aim to get all his boxes filled in bit by bit.
That way he should be OK if he decides to transition into High School in 18mths.
When I get stuck - trust me I will come shouting

Cheri, thanks for that link to the alison website - there are courses there for photoshop and dreamweaver, both of which I wanted, but didn't want to pay the oodles of money at local colleges - brilliant!2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Thanks for the website link Cheri - but what on earth were you doing up at that time of the morning????
I've kind of got my head together today - and have been in touch with all the Montessori teachers I know who have put me onto a really cool site that does downloadable lesson plans
.......... right from birth to twelve :j:j
Looking on there I believe that:
1. I'm pretty motivated to do this for my boys
2. The site makes it easy to organise
3. I'm pretty smart so sould be able to work it out
4. Together we can do anything
I may have to call on those of you who are crafty and handy to help me produce some materials - but I knwo you will all step in when I get myself sorted.
Now I got an idea of what I need to acquire - time to start sorting out the house and creating a "schoolroom" -
building walls
hanging doors
laying carpets
creating a garden
OMG!!!!! I feel a list coming on
