DIY hydroponics with 2L plastic pop bottles (perhaps not ideal as there may be better guides) but shows it can be done for next to nothing, or with things that can be gleaned on freecycle etc.

This is soooooo cool - now I wanna do this :D

MG - It might be a tad radical but have you thought of a shed in the garden that could be your new classroom?? You could insulate with polystyrene / rockwool and the boys could help you paint the inside ...

Also, I have a small plastic green house that I bought in a sale about 18 months ago. If you want it I can post as it is still in it's packaging. Alternatively, I hope to be in Edinburgh in the spring, so if it can wait I could drive it to you!

Oooh!!! when are you coming up? Thats got to be an excuse for a knees up - lol

Just got back in from a meeting of the parents now going to be involved in creating a Montessori kindi in ST A.

Long and short is - there will be an elemenary class until the summer - then none.

TBH - not a good enough offer for my boy, don't think its fair to ask me to pay £400 per month for six months, let him make new attachments and then leave him high and dry. So home-schooling it is.

................. but funnily enough, now that the decision is ABSOLUTELY made I am remarkably calm about it.

DS1 came creeping down the stairs when I came in and Mum went home. He loves a late night cuddle:D Will hate it when he is too big for a snuggle on the sofa.

"I'm OK Mum!! School is wherever you are!"

    ......................"We can work anywhere"

    ............................................... he's a genius!!!!!!! Not only that - but he's right!!!!

Your kids teach you the best lessons :D

I'm taking DS1 in to say goodbye to his teacher this morning. Even thinking about it makes me weep - but I think its right he does say goodbye.

Its going to be sooooo sad this morning - the real end to something that has been the very best ( and the very worst) thing in our life for the last 7 1/2 years.

I can at least hold my head high and say that I have done my best to support the school in every way ( including packing and moving us don't know how often) ...................... pity DS1 didn't receive the same support in return.

I know I won't be able to hold it together today - so keep your fingers crossed I am safe to do the return drive.

    Good luck MG

By the way have you thought about applying for one of the part time census posts - I'm not sure how much time it would involve but it might put a small pot of money together for your home school and I'm sure DS1 would be able to help you.

Just found Tescos do a Mum of the Year award/s and you can vote for the people choice!!

    See links for more information

I think this is absolutely brilliant (even if it does skew the people who like/shop at Tescos which is not soo good)

Ahem lol, this has nothing to do with the discussion we've been having, but harking back to all the talk of bra's on here a month or 2 ago. Seems somebody has launched the male equivalent of the Wonderbra.

Thought it might raise a smile (as well as the equipment in question)
Ok I'll get me coat:o lol

    Hi, MG,

Not posted recently but have been reading. What a few weeks you've had. I'm sure you've made the right decisions.

Hope today wasn't as tearful as you feared and that your Mum is starting to improve.

Sorry I'm too far away to offer any "hands-on" help but will be behind you all the way in spirit.

Scottishlass' suggestion re the census work is a good one as I know it can be flexible. £750 for about 75 hours in total between Feb and April but pretty much up to the individual when they do it. There's more info here http://www.scotlandscensus.gov.uk/en/jobs/CensusTakersEnumeratorrecruitment.html

Closing date for applications is 21 Jan.

(If anyone is interested in a Census job in England, the link is here https://censusjobs.co.uk/fe/tpl_census01.asp?newms=info1
    Applications close 17 Jan.)

    Take care
