Yippee! We have heat!!! The boiler part arrived late yesterday and our plumber this afternoon. Once I've got the house straight again I can "deck the halls" and start feeling Christmasy.

Thanks to everyone who sent positive vibes. I have to say that I feel a great deal more positive than I have been for the last 18 days. It's silly, really: I was brought-up in a freezing-cold house (ony one room was heated) and didn't have central heating in my previous flat & house, but 22 years with it has made me soft!

Off to catch up with various threads I've only been skimming for the last couple of weeks
  • have a lovely time fantasia i bet you feel so proud let them tears come theres nothing like a passing out parade to make you come over all teary eyed and enjoy harrogate its lovely if you have the time (and the money !!) go to bettys tea rooms yum yum
  • Many thanks for all the good wishes.

The interview seemed to go really well and they've said I'll hear by the end of the week.

    Staying positive...

Aint that the truth!!!! My Mums house got done over by "Colin and Justin" in series 1 of "how not to decorate". It was gorgeous, but it felt slightly odd moving back in and nothing held memories for you IYSWIM.

Wow, I bet that was exciting. Especially being the first series as you wouldn't really know what to expect. I quite like their designs too. But I do understand how your home can not feel like home after this sort of experience.
I look around my house now and every piece has a story to it - how it was found through Freecycle, renovated from our furniture place, gifted by friends, made by my own "Make Do and Mend" attitude. I came out of my bedroom this morning and the new flooring caught me by suprise - a lovely suprise. Has put a shine on the whole day :)

I love having things around me that create memories :D I re-did my lounge after living here for almost 10 years and every time I walked in for months I grinned. Most of the familiar knicknacks were still here but in different places and I got to put my pictures up having stored them for all that time. It was like having old friends back.
So todays "Secret Santa" is something really indulgent and yummy that will ring loads of memories back for all you Scots lassies - this is a family favourite - and I will be making about 5 batches between now and Christmas to bag up for all the "blokes" that are in our circle. Scots Tablet!!!!!

    :T:T:j:j Yippeee :j:j:T:T
I have NEVER had a recipe for this but it is something my Mum used to make many moons ago. I am going to print this one off and make it for a Christmas Treat for my family. Thank you, thank you, thank you :D

Fantasia - Hace a lovely time in Harrogate. I know that they will be tears of pride :)

  • Haven't posted for a while, but have been reading the updates. I will do better in the new year, promise.

Today I'm going home, so have checked online banking, about to have brekkie and check out of hotel, working from 8 until about 5, get home at around 7 and then can chill in my own house. Maybe DS will have sorted the Christmas stuff out for me, well maybe. At least staying away I've managed to write some cards and made a start on some crochet, so will do more small bits of crafting.

Oh and the form for the Wimbledon ballot has arrived,so need to get that sent off too!

  • OOops sorry guys - went whizzing off of here yesterday and had a mega busy DIY day. Completely forgot to empty my inbox. Off to do it now I promise (huge apologies to maryb and troglodyte).

More huge snow is forecast for tomorrow ( and we have still got 5" on the pavements here) so I am in "very organised with my list but headless chicken mode" - trying to cram all the Chrimbo prep into the next 36 hours.

Big LIDL shop is done (will not run out of coffee, still need to get bulk lo roll in)
    Freezer is stuffed full
Mum was in Dundee for Childrens Panel training so has done the bulk bits from the Chinese Supermarket etc.
Took DS1 to Doctors as he has 3 sore toes (chilblains - do I need to keep the heating on or persuade him to wear socks?? Socks it is)
Mum also got bigger wellies for DS1 (so now can wear 2 pairs of socks and not get chilblains again, poor wee soul)
Hallway has has the eggshell done and first coat of gorgeous duck-egg on the walls.
    Kitchen floor has been scrubbed.
Dining chairs have had their new seat covers stapled on.

So today I need to give the hallway a second coat.
Shorten a Curtain to hang at the main door.
Make a curtain or blind for the kitchen as there is a mega draft through the old sash window
Make a curtain for in front of the washing machine (as the draft blows down the sides straight at my legs)
Seal the kitchen floor to keep it clean
Ironing - aaaaarrrrgghhhh!!!!! Love it for craft, hate for clothes
    Make Raisin Bread
    Make hob nobs
Start off sourdough starter (giving it an extra couple of days cos its freezing)
    Make another load of tablet.
    Create boxes for the hampers
    Wrap the parentals presents

Tomorrow will be an "out of the house day", so
    Check on the school
Takes DS2 to Grans (seeing the Singing Kettle as a Xmas Treat)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxWFJZIdc3E his favourite
Take DS2 with his £15 budget to do his Christmas shopping.
Stock up on paracetamol for me and the kids
Take DS2 for lunch (got Wetherspoons vouchers)
Buy "special cards" for parents and Mums Best Friend (nearly typed BF but remember the whole can of worms that opened the last time)
Find a good spelling book for DS1 to practice with.
Have a DVD and popcorn night with the boys whilst simmering
    The Xmas Clootie Dumpling!!!!:T

Then - LET IT SNOW!!!!!!! cos we will be all snug and safe ( and thanks to the lovely man from BT will maybe even have internet this time)

Which wil be really useful as my next mentoring call is at 6.30am on Friday and I need to get back to work getting stuff organised...........

..................stuff like rescheduling the London visit
........... writing stuff for revamped website
    Setting my next quarterly goals
and identifying someone to get a handle on my admin (target for Easter)

So get us all brim full of energy todays "Secret Santa" - here's the song voted No1 of all Christmas songs ( not by me although its one of my top ten)
