Thanks MG, My friend across the road is Scottish and she makes this, its lovely too :)

Well Busy day for me too, sorting out the jewellery from the weekend need to make some earrings and a bracelet, pack jewellery and pop to the post office, go to £1 shop and get dog food, cleaning supplies, clean upstairs and take ds2 to the dentist to get his new brace.

Then be back for 4.30 as both boys are going Ice skating with Barnados.

It took me all of half hour to clean kitchen and living room this morning, once all the orders of the jewellery are sorted I'm going to do dining room, the bay as been done with that smooth over stuff, so it's just papering, which dh said he will try to do this week, coving and skirting boards and my new cupboard put together. Want to buy new blinds for the windows too (which still need repairing, but that will have to wait till the new year).

    Good Morning Matrix!!

Whoops - should be good afternoon!! The morning's gone already.

Felt absolutely shattered yesterday after the long journey home but I've got more energy today after a good noght's sleep. Only problem today is that the vacuum cleaner has got to the phase in it's life when it only works for about 2 minutes and then turns itself off for a bit of a rest. Know how it feels!! It's an elderly Dyson and I need to replace it. I thought I'd go for another Dyson as I've been quite pleased with it and it's lasted for donkey's years (how many years exactly does a donkey have?)........or does anyone know of a better cleaner?

Need to get on with this Christmas lark, though. I'm not at all organised. I'll try to get the cards done today - well I did say I was behind - and go grovelling around in the loft for wrapping paper and decorations.

    Positive vibes to everyone

Susan: I had an elderly Dyson that was brilliant but eventually got that it wasn't as efficient as it should be. I had used at work new dysons and they weren't a patch on the old and didn't seem anymore efficient than a ny cheaper makes. Can't recommend any particular make but if you know any one who has a newer model than yours borrow it and try it first! I was really disappointed with the new ones.

    Afternoon Matrix,

Whoop whoop, Xmas holidays start today for me, till 6th january. Yay.:D:j
Off to Yorkshire tomorrow and staying overnight at Otley, and then onto Harrogate Thursday for sons passing out parade. He's graduating Harrogate Foundation College and has finished Phase 1 of his training. We are still awaiting his specialist appointment to get a proper diagnosis and prognosis as to whats been happening with his legs, once he has that we will know if he is fit enough to continue to Phase 2 at Catterick or if he will be medically discharged (he doesnt want that, loves the army life style, still only 17).
Will be so proud seeing my boy (man now, gulp) do this, I'll embarrass him and cry . He's changed so much this past year, gone from an arrogant typical teenager who flouted authority to a disciplined, proud young adult who wants to serve his country:eek::eek::T:T.
Have'nt had time away in ages, so this is a double whammy.
Just hope they dont expect them to be true scotsman on the parade ground :rotfl::rotfl:All the Scots regiments dress uniform is the kilt:rotfl::rotfl:.

Before you replace your Dyson, check this out http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/help.asp?survey=SERVICE_REQUEST

We have an elderly DC01 (we were early adopters so it really is elderly!) which had started to struggle. For £69 the nice man from Dyson gave it a thorough overhaul: new motor, new beater-bar + the plastic thing which goes underneath, new cable & switch, belt etc replaced and even a new set of wheels! (I'm sure there was something else but can't think what it was.) To all intents and purposes we now have a new machine.

Thanks for the advice about the Dyson. It has already had a new motor, new hose, etc so we decided not to go down that route again. I spent quite a while vacuuming the floor in John Lewis under the watchful eye of the 6 foot 5 inches assistant and with an audience of no less than eight people also interested in vacuums. In the end I bought a Vax Mach Air - a small, light machine that is much lighter than the Dyson and easier on my back. It cost me £119 something or other - can't remember - although the full price is £179. The Dysons were all over £200. It has a six year guarantee and one of the customers said her parents had that model and thought it was marvellous.

We'll see. It has one or two less desirable bits; like the hose for doing the stairs isn't as long as the old Dyson but none of them seemed to be perfect in every way. The Vax did pick up a bit of fluff that the demonstration Dyson in the shop missed so I guess you are right, Robsmum - they don't make them like they used to!!!!!!!
