I get migraines and I have a friend who has trained in the Buteyko breathing method. It claims many things (being flippant I could say it claims to fix bad backs), but it is especially good for sinus problems and migraines.
The science is that by breathing through your nose you increase the volume of carbon dioxide in your blood. Balancing the oxygen and carbon dioxide, helps the uptake of oxygen; so instead of taking more oxygen in by hyperventilating, you should actually reduce oxygen uptake.
Anyway, I had a migraine starting and I was at work without any tablets and I remembered this. Normally I would panic, since migraines to me mean severe cluster headache and sickness and I would breath through my mouth. I got lots done as I didn't really speak on anyone, just concentrated on nose breathing. Miraculously, it went away.
I got the chance to discuss with my GP yesterday, and he agreed that charging your blood with carbon dioxide does work. It is something he learned to do as a medical student since he suffers too.
Give it a go and see if it helps

I think I breathe through my mouth in the nights more specially in the winter that actually makes sense why 9 out of 10 times I wake up with the headache rather than get them during the day iykwim

Hi there!
My word over a thousand posts to catch up on! I'll start while feeding the baby...
I was re-admitted to hospital the day after I escaped and had posted on here, by my Community Mid-Wife. I had suffered a Pullmonary Embolism, had Pneumonia/Fluid on Lungs, and have Post-Partem Cardio-Myopathy... So not in the best of shapes! Kept me in another 11 days. I'm now rattling from various meds and being looked after at home by hubby, who fortunately had booked a fortnights holiday following paternity leave, and I need to visit the hospital on an out-patient basis.
Thankfully the Liverpool Womens Hospital is "Baby Friendly" Which meant that I could keep the Little One with me, and still breast feed, apart from the days when I was radio-active from some of the tests! It times like this that you are grateful for the NHS, and the support it provides. I had just put feeling carp down to the emergency section/ Eclampsia etc but the eagle eyed community Midwife was having none of it and actually called the hospital and spoke directly to the Dr who re-admitted me and started various treatments straight away, which undoubtedly has saved my life!
On of those occasions when the facts are more dramatic than the reality.
Right off to catch up on the thread, hope you are all well,
Winky x x xRight now I'm having amnesia and deja- vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before0 -
