Statistics are irrelevant since we are dealing with a moral issue.
The intentional killing for profit of even ONE whale is an abomination.
Talk of numbers is but a diversionary tactic - and it has failed.0 -

Can we get back to discussing interest rates. My policies are based not on some economics theory, but on things I and millions like me were brought up with: an honest day's work for an honest day's pay; live within your means; put by a nest egg for a rainy day; pay your bills on time; support the police - Margaret Thatcher.0 -

As have the other diversionary 'arguments' posed on this thread. :T0 -
The big people have the money and control the way the world works. We have no choice but to let them tax what tiny little bit we can make for ourselves and make the best of it. So if people try to make a difference for the better, by all means they should try to. But does anybody know why we don't eat seagulls? Do they taste horrible? They're massive, noisy and they poo on my laundry so can we persuade the Icelanders to kill seagulls instead? I think we should go for itStudent loan no more

Note to Gingercordial: there's a lot of cod left in Icelandic waters.
Why? Because they have control of their own waters (ie not in the EU) - plus they went to war with the UK in the '70s over cod.
Another post suggested boycotting Norway because of whaling: so turn off your gas heating this Winter because that's where a lot of it comes from.
Be very careful where you buy your clothes from this Winter too: Bauger own huge chunks of British retail companies.
Still, you could always put your money into an ethical bank - Smile (a.k.a. the co-op). They're giving away a case of wine too: but think of the food miles - I bet the wines come from Chile or Australia.

More diversionary 'arguments'.
Doh! :rolleyes:0 -
Wow - got through all of that lot - and I must say I am more inclined to open an ICESave account than I was before!! I haven't got the resources to investigate every bank...or shop... or supplier. People mention that there are plenty of chickens so it is okay to kill and eat them... but I think if we go down that route then you get into the conditions that loads of chickens are kept in for the whole of their lives... so much so that they don't actually have a life. Something that a whale does have. Don't get me wrong I would prefer a whale to not be killed... but sometimes a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Off to fill out the forms!0
