thanks, op. i have opened an icesave account but i think i will move my money back to another bank. why? why not. for the sake of a fraction of a percentage, i can live with it.

i don't think it's particularly "loony" to be concerned about the extinction of creatures on this planet which we will never be able to resurrect once they're gone.

Chrismaths, if you have any confidence in whalers to act responisbly and ensure their prey are sustained, you have a lot more faith in greedy human beings than i do.

They are the 'best' savings accounts (from the point of view of the amount of interest they currently pay, disregarding the ethics surrounding one and the possible lack of security of the other), excluding ISAs, which are tax free. Unfortunately, you can only put £3,000 a year into an ISA. I have considerably more that I want to have in a relatively safe savings vehicle (rather than investing it in shares, etc.). For the moment, I'm leaving it in the Post Office savings account, since neither Icesave nor ICICI appeal for the above-mentioned reasons. I have used up my ISA allowance for this year, unfortunately.

Thought as much Saphire, but was just checking!!!

I wish my ISA was full up for the year!!!:confused:

The Icelandic fishermen have decided to start whaling again. This means that the largest sentient creature of the seas is going to be harpooned and then targeted with a grenade to kill it.

The whale will take up to 30 minutes to die. It's taken years for the whale population to be revived from previous perilous levels - it will only take a few years for countries such as Iceland & Norway to decimate it again.

Icesave is operated by a bank in Iceland - please think before you apply for this savings account - do you want to be part of the 'revived' whaling nation.

There are many accounts available with high interest (OK just a few tenths of a point lower than they offer) so please look around and take just a little less interest but have a clear conscience.

(When you are shopping don't forget that Iceland Freezer shops are owned by an Icelandinc investment group)

Be assured I' not your regular 'bunny hugger' but in the case of whales and the methods used to hunt them I am very vociferous.

Thanks for reading this - enjoy your day.

    You people make me sick.

Why do people always start with the whale hugging on completely irrelevant targets, but don't seem to give a !!!!!! when it comes to say Chinese state torture, murder of political dissidents, selling of their organs, censorship, etc.

Don't see you boycotting everything with a 'made in china' sticker on it.

But when it comes to marine mammals suddenly you acquire a conscience that says you need to attack private companies just because they come from the same country as a few whalers, and even though they have as much to do with whaling as you do.

You cannot get more stupid than this.
My policies are based not on some economics theory, but on things I and millions like me were brought up with: an honest day's work for an honest day's pay; live within your means; put by a nest egg for a rainy day; pay your bills on time; support the police - Margaret Thatcher.
  • Isn't it interesting.

Those who post in support of the OP are remaining calm in the points they passionately believe in.

Those who disagree with the OP are getting angry and all worked up.

    Says alot really!

Indeed. Please remove your blinkers and look again. A little generalisation is a dangerous thing.

I am really suprised that several people were appaulled at my comments that killing criminals was better than killing whales.

This is EXACTLY the policy of the YOUR government which one poster thinks YOU are responsible for (I don't agree that you are responsible for every action of the government).

The UK government indulges in state sponsored murder even if it is illegal.
Mostly we try to kill terrorists but "collateral damage" of innocent civillians and both US and UK soldiers is considered an acceptable risk.
Whereas we do not kill whales.

If you are appaulled at my comments then you are appaulled at your own governement.

I would also echo another posters comments about China.
They kill "criminals" but they are not too fussy about evidence.
I don't see moneysavers boycotting chinese goods in fact most people buy these in droves because they are cheap.

If you are serious about these issues then you should stop buying anything from India, Iceland the UK and China.
In fact grow some veg in your garden.
I suspect however that many people are not practicing what they preach.

Are you saying that people aren't allowed to have morrals and opinions unless its about issues that concern you?

So I can't complain about people breaking into my house, or about the old lady getting mugged, or paedophiles, rapists..... all because i'm not out on the streets protesting about Chinese state torture or people selling organs....

I'm sorry, but its people like YOU that make me sick, thinking that my opinion counts less than yours and that your morals and thoughts come before anyone elses.

I'm not (trying to) preach anything. Honestly.

I'll still use the IceSave account, regardless of whaling.

I'll still eat chinese food regardless of their human rights records.

I'll still use Indian services despite their capital punishment (I originally raised that one btw.)

I'll still talk to americans despite their president.

What I personally find mildly wierd is that people get all worked up and would much rather boycott a service over non-human mis-treatment yet still use services from countries condoning human mis-treatment.

I find this order of priorities strange. Am I wrong? Have I over-summarised?

    Humans or animals...

Whats the difference, we're talking about saving dumb animals either way, in fact I think that might be a bit harsh on Whales, at least they live their life without trying to destroy everything they come into contact with, including each other.....

Oh and as far as I know, Whales don't go around thinking that they are the cleverest thing on the planet so therefore have a divine right not to give a crap about anything else like humans.....
