Reflexology is good in pregnancy - and can also be tried to tip the balance when you get to 39/40 weeks and are fed up with it all. Certainly worked with my second child - was contracting in the car on the way home!!!!

Thanks for all those suggestions. I did think of the spa thing but as Fitzio says you just feel so massive you can't be bothered with that kind of thing.

I love the idea of babysitting vouchers, reflexology, chime necklaces and the hydrotherm though. The Slanket and eating out vouchers are good too.
  • Just echoing everyone else really. I would've loved a pamper voucher. Is there a reason you can't get her anything to wear? Is that because she'd have to choose and be present? How about paying for something she can order online? I have been pregnant twice over xmas and although I had plenty of maternity clothes to choose from, I still felt a bit dull compared to people we were with.

Slippers and a giant dressing gown :)

I ended up wearing the slippers for the last few weeks of pregnancy as my feet were massive.
  • It depends how close you are in location.

If you are close and will be hands on when the baby comes then I would say a spa session.

If however your daughter will be on her own when baby settles in at home, I would suggest a few sessions with a Doula to help her when baby comes home and dad goes back to work.

Just that she's told me she doesn't think it's worthwhile getting clothes as she will only get to wear them for a few weeks at most.

Very close thankfully. only about 1.5 miles away. And yes I will be hands on when baby arrives...although I'll need to remember that's how I got the dog...!

She decided she couldn't cope with the dog who was about 2 at the time (because she was working full time) so I did the hands on thing to help out and the dog never went home. At first my daughter used to collect the dog every night, but the dog would wise up and hide when my daughter came for her.

She's a lovely dog though, she's nearly 8 now and although I've now got two dogs she's no trouble.

So have to be just a bit careful where baby's concerned...! :)
  • Congratulations on becoming a grandma!
When we had our first, we had no idea what to expect, but my husband kept asking his parents what they did at that stage, what would they do now, how old was he when he did things, etc. Their answer always was that they couldn't remember, so maybe write things about her down or hand over her baby book if you did one for her when she was born (and ask inlaws to do the same for the dad?).

With my first baby the whole family link became so much more clear to me, so a family tree maybe? Like a drawing or photos to put on the wall or a written version of who's who, funny stories etc. It's great to talk about things like that to a baby on your arm.

Or buy her a good quality sling, if she might want to carry the baby (or she gets a clingy baby that won't be put down, like my first): they are expensive and can be difficult to learn how to use, so if she can try it out now, she might be more inclined to use it when the baby is born (sleep deprivation and learning new skills do not sit well together). The woven ones can be used as a hammock later on and be used as a toy to build dens with etc when the kid gets older.

I had a pregnancy massage that was the BEST THING EVER.

Also, maybe a photoshoot for her lovely belly? Or a folder full of takeaway menus and a few tenners? Perhaps a small freezer filled with preportioned home cooked heat and eat food?
