I'm now starting to worry about the concept of doing three different meals!
Could I make a nut roast and heat on the day? Think I might give the fish eaters nut roast as well!
Thanks for the heads up on the Christmas pudding, my aunt is making one and I'll check with her but she was telling me the other day that she only uses vegetarian suet so hopefully that's OK, her daughter is vege so I think that should be OK. Will check though.
Don't know about the idea of heating the nut roast on the day - I've not tried that. Doubtless someone else will come along with advice on that soon...
I think you might be putting yourself to a LOT of trouble personally if you try to make THREE different meals. Personally (if I were a meat-eater) - I'd just do the two - ie the standard turkey and everyone else could have the luxury nut roast.0 -
Errr...thanks...but personally I will stick to treating myself to a Marks & Spencer one. EIGHT hours steaming it:eek: and I dont use silver foil - so I get myself "tied up in knots" every time thats suggested as to what else I can use - visions of pudding cloths.....:(
:rotfl: I do mine in the Rayburn (you could do it in a low oven); I use a plastic pudding basin with a lid, so no aluminium either. You could use a ceramic basin and greaseproof.
I use the money I save on Veuve Cliquot :rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
Well, I'm veggie and I'm having this:

Biting is excellent. It's like kissing, only there's a winner.0 -

Hastily adds - in case anyone worries about it....I'll be having my Christmas lunch as usual with my parents. I know me muvva will do a Marks & Spencer luxury readymeal for me personally for the main course - hence I tend to make my own Christmas Lunch some other day with exactly what I would like (including that M & S veggie Christmas pud with loads of clotted cream:D).0 -

Hmmm....wonders if I could interpret "low oven" as "in my dehydrator".....0 -

Yep - that would be suitable:D0 -
Some veggies dont eat Quorn as it has non free range egg white in it (or used to). I dont eat it for that reason.
My daughter is a vegan so when she comes I make her a sort of pie with vegetables in and a sort of tomato sauce base. I then use filo pastry as this is usually vegan.
You put the layers of filo in a dish with over lapping bits all round and then fill with onions, courgettes, aubergine, green beans or anything really. (all cooked of course), pour over sauce. Could be white or cheese sauce or veggie gravy. Put a few more sheets over the top and pull the over lapping bits over making it look quite rustic. Bake at about 150 until it looks golden. Lovely and looks quite special.0 -

Whatever you serve remember, if you have 10 people including to veggies, you need at least 4 portions of veggie food. Because the meat eaters will all think, ooh, that looks interesting and try a bit on top of their standard turkey dinner. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
im vegan , the family dont eat turkey etc so we have various indian dishes for christmas , everyones happy
i just dont see why people still have to do the traditional meal when it causes so much trouble
also if you were to go down the faux meats/ready meals route (or even just to look at for ideas) redwood and lindamac have some nice stuff0
