Ford diesels dont like sainsburys

Ford diesels aren't even that brilliant when run on BP/Shell fuel all the time - so I don't know what their fussy design has achieved :rotfl:0

Mine's fine. Maybe you've clogged up the injectors with too much supermarket fuel!
Low company car tax too!0 -
I know people who have diesel Mondeos as company cars and they're not exactly brilliant fuel economy wise compared with others.
BP fuel only too - company fuel cards.0 -
Just a quick update.
My Fiesta diesel played up during the adverse temeratures we were getting in December, the silly minus numbers during the night and not getting above freezing during the day.
Now we are in the normal temps, my car is ok.
The temps were the cause of the problem, not sure what the problem was. Could have been the diesel or could have a faulty component or sensor.
Yes I had filled up at Sainsburys on the friday and the problem started on the Saturday, but as LandyAndy as suggested this just could be coincidence.
As spanner16 has pointed out that he uses the same Sainsburys as I do and not had a problem. Yes I use Sainsburys on a regular basis and not had a problem until now.
My local mechanic was not open on the Wednesday after Christmas, but since Wednesday the weather has improved ( I did a top up with Total diesel on Christmas eve)
So with the car running ok, I will keep away from Sainsburys and wait until the freezing weather returns to see if it plays up again.0 -
Driving home last Friday, my Mondeo had a Engine Malfunction warning on the dash lcd display and lost engine power. I pulled the car into a conveniently placed layby. I stopped the engine, waited, restarted and the same thing happened as I pulled out of the layby. I pulled over again, stopped the engine for longer and restarted again. This time I nearly got home and it happened again, the car crawled along the back road at max 20mph. I got Ford Assist out (the AA). No fault codes found car behaved perfectly.
Saturday car was fine for a run around town. Monday I set out to work and engine fault occur three times in 25 miles along A roads (stopping and starting engine in layby/slip road) before gave up and called Ford Assist again and demanded they get me home and sort a courtesy car. The last time it happened the car juddered when my foot was steady on the accelerator before the error was reported.
Ford looked at it today (wed). Error code read off was fuel pressure. Number of potential causes but they suspect fuel filter blocked. They asked where I fueled the car and when I said Sainsbury they claim this is the problem and it is common (not just with Fords). Naturally not covered under warranty. (£120 total I have been charged). Not got car back so I'll report back if the filter solves the problem.
The car is a 61 plate 1.6 TDCi Econetic, 5 months old with 9k miles on it. I find the whole thing incredible to believe. I nearly always use Sainsbury City Diesel as it is round the corner and cheap and just didn't believe the stories abou fuel quality from supermarkets. I had filled up the Friday morning I had the problem. It was during a particular cold spell, I thought the adjusted additives then but caulks be wrong. It was around -6 when the problem first manifest, not sure that had any relevance.
Interested in your thoughts. I'm very frustrated, Ford should give clear warnings if they really think there is a problem. I plan to get in writing from Ford what I can and contract Sainsburys to hear what they think. I'm not expecting I'll get anywhere...!0 -
I filled up at Sainsbury's in Bury St Edmunds on the friday before Christmas and have had problems ever since.
Fiesta 52 plate diesel starts up ok, go down the road a few miles and the engine slows down and flashes up EAC fail on the dash.
It has stalled on me a couple of times, failing to start afterwards, give it about 20 minutes and it fires up again.
My local mechanic should be open tomorrow.
Must be down to the diesel, car has never played up before.
I hadn't seen the previous post. My car was also filled up at the same Sainsbury in BSE and I had what sounds like the same problem (see my post above).0 -
Nice to know Ford are still using every excuse they can think of to avoid fixing cars under warranty. I'll bet if you said you ran it on BP Ultimate they would have told you that fuel was a problem.Never Knowingly Understood.

Dear oh dear.
A car that is damaged by running on supermarket fuel is a carp design.
Either Ford are talking nonsense or these TDCi engines are garbage.0 -
Mine manages just fine and I mostly run it on Tesco diesel, though I do occasionally put a tank of Shell Fuelsave through it and that does perk the car up noticeably, when I press the accelerator it's a lot less hesitant to actually rev the engine.

Mine got noisy after filling up at Tesco, coincidence?
Who knows but it was still noisy after filling up with other brands of fuel.
Drain and fill with another brand and see if it improves.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
