Its amazing how you think there are probably women in labour during all this snow, how on earth are they coping with it all!! I'd be panicing if I was 38 weeks or more

I must admit i'm having a mini freak out, our street is only to be attempted if suicidal, we live in a dip so there is a small hill either end to get out onto the main roads. Hubby dug my car out at about 8pm and gave it a go, he got stuck trying to reverse out the space but he also cleared the path and stairs and a neighbours son works for the council roads department and stashed about 50kg of rock salt in our communal back gardens so Oh has cleared and gritted front path and stairs, rear path and stairs to the bin area and washing lines. Its just a shame her son doesn't drive a snowplow/gritter, I would gladly make his lunch if he decided to come in one end of street plowing and spreading, have break/lunch then leav the other end of street plowig and gritting.
Dh has to head into work tomorrow and await further instructions. Pain in !!! TBH. Schools off again but no appearnece = no pay so he will be attempting it.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000 -
Thats a shame, such a nightmare. You would think that we as a country should be used to all this and have backup but everytime it grinds the country to a halt!MPs left feb '08 276- Dec 13 36 :T MB Jan 10 ~ £82,377 Dec 13 ~ £29987

It still amazes me that this country comes to a standstill when there's snow, when we were in New York one year, it fell down and had about 6 inches overnight. The ploughs, gritters, sweepers etc were out immediately and almost all the pavements and roads were clear by mid-morning! Nobody batted an eyelid and was dealt with using the usual American efficiency.
The UK has to make a huge fuss every time! Mainly the media I may add, us mere mortals just cope as best we can and get on with it.
My neighbours husband rang me at about 7pm and asked me to go next door and check on his girlfriend. She is 6 months pregnant and had just fell down the stairs!!:eek::eek: Luckily shes all in one piece and slid all the way down on her rump, lucky though.....KimmyCustard :j0 -
Very... the ironic thing is we are in Scotland, we should be used to this and TBH we seemed to cope fine then we had 8-9 mild winters, the winter budget got cut probably in favour of something bizzare and here we are, a city that only have 13 snowplows in total. Totally inadequate for a city that is apparently the 2nd most densly populated in ScotlandMF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000

They probably cut the budget to spend it on sky hooks or glass nails.........KimmyCustard :j0

Is it still snowing too? I live 3 miles from work and anyone in a 4 mile radius is expected to walk in. How i'm meant to walk DD 3 miles to nursery I have no idea! Luckily it's not too bad where we are but the surrounding villages which are a bit higher (yet only 3 or 4 miles away) get hit pretty bad. Last year work (i'm a nurse) provided a ward for staff to sleep in! Some people didn't get to go home for days!

We had a light dusting overnight. Sky is full of it though. OH made it to work, he says once you get out of our street the roads are actually fine, I am hopeful that if we can get either a plow along or more traffic along our street and I should be able to escape later on today or tomorrow. Only issue is there is a severe weather warning in place, heavy snow expected, 10cms but as much as 20cms in higher areas, we are only about 200ft above sea level at highest points of city so hope we won't get hit but who knowsMF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000

Well we finally got some overnight, although I've seen more icing sugar on a donut! Its still snowing now but its melting more or less on impact. Theyre still saying we're going to get some more this weekend but we'll see about that as well.
No going out for me today, it freeeeeeezing! How are your little ones today LP?KimmyCustard :j0 -
hyper Kimmie. HM pizza for tea, mummy feeding 'junk' food is a rarity in this house so they high as kites. Schools off tomorrow. My inlaws have a 4wd and they have said if FIL is off tomorrow too they will come over, collect kids and keep them until Thursday
No schools again tomorrow but we have already had our 10cms and sky looks heavy. Severe weather warning in place again.
