Blimey, I was considering buying some stuff from them as they have some good money-off offers for new customers, but I don't think I will now! If there is one thing I really hate with big companies it is poor customer service, and this is even more important with a catalogue/internet company as you can't go into the store.
I have to say that having to call them and inform them that you want money crediting to your BNPL account is ridiculous, why else would you put money in there?! Do they think people prefer to send it to them for safe-keeping than put it in the bank?!0 -
People shouldn't get carried away by a few people who have had problems. Afterall, there are many more who don't have any problems.
The BNPL deals are very good (ok the high street may be cheaper if someone can afford to pay outright for the item) and I'm sure most people don't have any issues with them. I've used them twice and once I knew I had to call, I made the call and everything went through fine. It is explained on the statement you need to call for BNPL.
As for putting your account in credit, well if you have a BNPL deal and you make payments into your account and therefore put it in credit, when you ring, if you tell them to use the credit to pay for the BNPL then it will be allocated towards it.
For me it was a good way to ensure I had the BNPL money in my account, had I not made payments, I might have just spent the BNPL money and then not had the money to pay for it and avoid interest.
Yes you could put it aside in a saver account or in a piggybank if you prefer. But that depends on the sort of person you are, if you are one of those people who find it difficult or impossible to save then the above is a good way to ensure you have the money when the BNPL is due.
Oh and no I don't work for Very lol.0 -
Hi guys,
Just to clear a few things up in regards to BNPL as we have implemented a change to improve the service:- We have introduced a 'fix' over the last few weeks to recognise that if an account has a credit balance and goods on BNPL, this credit balance will be automatically applied to the goods when they are charged and you will not need to contact us to let us know. Therefore you would avoid any interest providing the item is paid in full before the due date to be charged. This has not always been the case as a few of you have mentioned already and up till recently customers were advised to let us know before the items were charged so we could allocate the payment first. This fix must have been put in in time on MCGONIS & babyfruitella's accounts judging by their posts.
- If you do have goods on BNPL & your normal weekly payment account you will still need to let us know if you are paying for both lots of goods at once so we can allocate however much of the payment you want towards the BNPL part of your account. If you don't advise us how much of the payment you want towards the BNPL goods the payment will be spread over the items on your normal account.

Sorry havent been on here since I last ranted!
I did what I said, paid the unfair interest charges and then cancelled my account. I have now seen that Very has brought its BNPL plan up to date with regards to credit in accounts. Just wanted to say well done to Very!
Hopefully the customer service team has had a good shake up, been taught some manners, and realised that the customer should be valued.0 -

Of course some customers dont do themselves any favours.

i have been reading this thread with great interest.
It seems very/littlewoods group have become a money grabbing company with all their charges and back dating interest.
The last time i had a bnpl it was added to your statement at the correct time, then you you either payed in full or monthly, or interest would be added on next statement , (which actualy gave you 6 months free interest)
There was none of this back dating interest to the date that you ordered the goods or phoning nonesence.
Glad i have found this out .0 -
I have also been reading this thread with great interest - and I am very glad I found it. Thought I was losing the plot with my account balance that doesn't seem to disappear and appears to gain charges all over the place.
You would think that hours wasted trying to explain their ridiculous terms to the majority of their customers would have made them act quicker on this.0 -
In fairness, I should mention that I bought my gas hob from Very about two years ago: it was very affordable, and I continue to be extremely satisfied with it. However, their administrative processes seem to be unduly complicated: I just wanted to pay at the time I ordered, but ended up getting it on credit anyway, and then had trouble finding a way to clear the account. However, their call-centre staff were unusually helpful and pleasant.0
