    Have a word please.

You didn't get the job.. woopy doo. Your post sounds pretty much in anger.

Secondly i highly doubt MSE would sell details. I mean get real. This website has helped thousands if not millions obtain information to correct their life styles etc. Do you really think a highly acclaimed person like Martin would allow this?

Nasa gets hacked. Is that an inside job too?

Companies and servers get hacked all the time. It doesn't mean its an inside job.

Lastly this is an email address only people. How many people use Yahoo and have spam recieved every day? It's hacked nothing more. Email addresses are free so change it. No point grumbling about it

Most of you are going on like you are about to corrupted by fraud over a blinking Email.

    :T:T:T:T:T:T:T

And do I qualify as an 'old-timer'? No email here.

. . . There needs to be constant communication, when there's nothing to say. After all, it's not like people who work at MSE have something better to do than constantly post. There's nothing else going on, like a security breach or anything...

My hero! I was going to suggest that post gets pinned as well but satire doesn't seem to be appreciated by some on here. . . :(

Super post, Rossy. Thank Gawd there are quite a few folks like you and ZTD around to stop amateur dramatics reigning supreme here.

    Haha

Couldn't believe half of what i read about "selling" information

Jeez if that's what people think of MSE then i suggest this isnt the site for you.

I check my Yahoo email everday, It on average houses 10 junk emails a day. I don't care either..

I'm surely not going to splurt out they are selling my info. I mean it's an email address thats free and to which i could happily arrange another one for free if i so wished
If Adam and Eve were created first
.Does that mean we are all inbred

I received one about 9.30 this morning.

I haven't logged in here for more than 3 years, or posted for even longer.

This username was set up as a joke with some friends, to see how quickly they could figure out who it was, inspired by the fact that for some strange reason I couldn't log in my normal account for a while.

The username has not been used anywhere else in the world. The email address associated with it is also unique, of the form something @ username dot isp-name, and has never been used anywhere else for either receiving or sending emails, and the kind but patronising advice above about how to conduct my twitface account more securely is wasted, as I don't have any such accounts.

I have habitually set up email addresses that way so that I tell different parties a different email address.

These means if I once in a while get an email that is spam or contains malware, I can tell where it came from, or where the address was hacked from. So for example I once phoned up someone from a company and told him their servers had a virus. He thought not, but phoned me back 2 hours later to thank me.

So this has definitely been hacked out of the MSE membership records.

It seems to be an increasing problem, that reputable companies are getting their databases hacked and stolen from. I get occasional spam to separate email addresses that relate only to 2 mobile phone companies, a computing advice newsletter (!), a VoIP company, and others. Not one message has ever been to something speculative before the @ sign.

I have had more than one forum account here, and the mailing list subscription, and between them the email addresses have received between 8 and 12 related spam messages, mostly but not only in an outbreak noted a while ago

But I haven't reported them before. In the aftermath of my main account here being banned, there was some subsequent correspondence between me and MSE, for example I was able to have details that might tend to be personally identifying edited from the forum, due to reasons that don't need stating here. Some other posts that I considered defamatory were also kindly removed, but not all.

In the end, MSE put in filters to stop me sending them any more emails, so I cannot forward any copies of the spam to prove it came to an MSE related address and to maybe help them in figuring out how the leaks occurred. If MSE can make blocks work in that way against me, they ought to be able to achieve them elsewhere.

Surely the companies associated with sending this today ought to be able to help the relevant bodies with their enquiries, if required to do so?

I've had one times 18.46. I am concerned because the email used is going to be very hard to dump. It contains my full name, and I don't like that it is now connected to my username on here. I think I've read that MSE does not delete accounts and the associated information. I really feel that option must be offered to anyone who has received one of these emails should they wish.
You never get a second chance to make a first impression.
  • This is a disguisting breach, i just recieved an email like everyone else, i have used this site maybe once or twice.

Does anyone know if passwords have been harvested aswell?

Interesting article here, from just a couple of weeks ago:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/blog/2010/nov/02/blekko-search-engine-labels-money-sites-spam

in which Dan defends himself against an accusation that moneysavingexpert.com is the 7th worst site for spam

So why give it a mention here?????

A new search engine has been launched which aims to seduce users into adopting it by extending promises the engine's current design cannot possibly fulfill. In other words: Blekko is crap.

In response to MSE's answer to Blekko's blatant gibberish, Blekko's founder replies, in that same Grauniad article:

"But this kind of report from you is exactly why we are opening up all of the details about how blekko works to the public. Helpful reports that we are mis-labeling important sites with borderline spam scores as spammers. Now we can fix them!"

Yeah. Right. Blekko has delusions of thinking it will out-perform Google Search. A shame that moneysavingexpert (and other UK websites) have got caught up in Blekko's pursuit of those delusions.
