We have nectar points to spend in Sainsburys, about £20. Asda CC points, about £35 & the change tin, about £20. That £75 should cover boxing day & snacks & the usual shopping. We eat out Christmas day, the 3 of us costs about £100, which sounds a lot but less wearing on the nerves & mess.

Drinks are not factored in to the budget, I feel they are a personal luxury, which should be purchased out of individual pocket money.

Thank me later when your guests are over the moon.

Been there done that, wasn't impressed.
There are going to be 11 people here on Christmas day, two of them are toddlers. It will cost us about £50 on food and goodness knows how much on drink. We will also be having the same 11 and another three for new years lunch, oh has a friend who's wife works in a butchers and oh gets according to him the most amazing steak pies ( I'm veggie so don't know ). Thank goodness for a double oven and a big house, it's about the only time they come in handy.
  • we normally spend around 50 each week on our food bill so will probably add another 50-70 on top of that we have to spend a wee bit extra as its dd birthday on christmas day so in the evening we will put some birthday banners up and have a cake for her, i have been gathering bits and pieces up from september so have most of the sweets and treats, no need to buy drink as i don't drink and oh doesn't like drinking at christmas (he waits til new years eve). :xmassmile

Did this for christmas three years ago when the girls were only six months old so we didn't have to waff on - big mistake! Everything tasted overly salty and the poultry gravy was like tasteless, gritty sludge which ruined the dinner - their customer service excuse 'We are M&S - it can't possibly have been a bad batch, it must be you'

I do like some M&S food but I don't honestly think it beats home-cooking.

I will be doing my usual shopping for the Christmas week but for the actual day will have turkey and the trimmings. I find my family, me OH and 3 youngsters don't really eat pudding or the like on Christmas day, will have in some ice cream though. Boxing day is just a nirmal dinner for us but I will buy some extra sweets and some savoury nibbles but I don't expect to spend anymore than £20 on the extras.

We are veggies so I may try making my own nut roast this year and then just the veggies. Will probably spend roughly an extra £30 on nibbles and beer, cranberry sauce, nice cheese and some pop. Thats it really - we'll eat the same as usual - so £30 xmas budget.

The people who don't like it are simply not used to quality , you have to educate your pallets!

Everyone choose a dish to try over the weekend and rate it.

I will just spend the usual £100 I have budgeted for a weekly shop, plus I have £50 in Tesco savings stamps which will buy extra dinner items.

I will add a few goodies over the coming weeks to my normal shop so by Christmas it's really just the fresh produce I will need to buy extra.
