  • From the link you supplied Peter:

It is an offence to use a hand-held phone, or similar device,
    .
    .
A device is "similar" to a mobile phone if it performs an interactive communication function by transmitting and receiving data. Examples of interactive communication functions are sending and receiving spoken or written messages, sending or receiving still or moving images and providing access to the internet

So provided that you use the phone to just record data but not to send or receive it then you are okay. (again, provided you stay in control of the vehicle)
  • My concern would be just how would you pick up a phone, find the correct buttons to choose camera, set up camera to movie, hold the camera to view the car in front, take pics and still be in control. I just don't see how its possible to even be within the spirit of the law let alone the letter.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
  • Why do people enjoy watching smokers flick ciggy butts?
    It is quite perverse.
  • blimey, i would get 1000 fines a month
  • Funny, the day after I noticed this thread a van driver threw a butt out right in front of me.
I'm a cyclist. Glad he missed.
    Tw*t.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

A few years ago i flicked a cig butt out my window and the wind caught it & blew it back into my car landing on a back seat passenger! That was the last day i ever smoked in a car.

As a ex pillion rider on a motorbike travelling weekly between Scotland & Wales weekly we were regulary hit by flying cigs/ rubbish on Motorways thrown from cars :( Once a guy lost his rag and opened his window and threw a cd case out the window, it hit the driver of the bike and we lost control. It is pretty serious and now i would report people for throwing rubbish from cars, but i will never get on a bike again! Way to many idiot car drivers on the roads now!
    Grocery Challenge - Jan £4.42/£200.00

    Up my income - £124.00/ £11,000.
  • What I do is keep plenty of rubbish lying around my car. If anyone throws something out their window, I overtake and return the favour. With the window full down, in an exaggerated manner, (just incase they think I'm only doing it because I'm also an !!!!) I throw whatevers to hand at them.
Ok, motorbikers being killed is perhaps a 1 in a billion, but if a lit cigarette butt was unexpectedly to hit your visor it could possibly disorientate you enough to cause problems.
Again, I'd overtake but the lack of missiles would mean I would have to extend my left arm and make some sort of hand gesture.

This exact thing happened to my dad when he was younger an he's never rode a motorbike since. It was a really sunny hot day and he had all his leathers an helmet on but had the top button open on his leather jacket. Some 'person' threw a cig end out the window of the car travelling in front of him an it blew onto his neck an went down inside his leather jacket. Dad lost control of the bike but luckily he was able to just 'step off' but the bike slid across the road an 2 cars collided when trying to swerve out of the way. My dad had burns to his chest, one driver was seriously injured an the other had minor injuries, 2 cars were badly damaged an dads bike had to be scrapped. It cost dad lots in loss and his insurance had to pay the car drivers as the cig thrower disappeared without even realising what he'd caused an no-one realised what had caused the crash until dad was able to tell them - everyone just assumed dad had lost control of the bike. So, Yes, it's extremely dangerous. Also, I live near traffic lights and I've watched as drivers waiting at the lights have a clear out and dump all their rubbish out the car. You always see mounds of cig ends on the road.
