Throwing cigarette end out of moving car

The important thing here is not whether the OP, or anyone else, smokes its whether the driver of the following vehicle is able to take one hand off the wheel (whilst driving I assume) set up a mobile to take movies and to film the driver long enough to see a hand throwing a but out of a window. The last I heard was that using a mobile for anything, whilst driving, was against the law, unless its a call hands free. So lets stop arguing about whether smoking is good or bad as that's not what the post is about.
Unfortunately the OP has paid so its moot really.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
Look, I smoke and i dont need pr1cks like you telling me what i should or should not be doing to my own f-ing body.
Indeed not but what about what you do to others?0 -
I'm a smoker, and got one of these fines through the door. Luckily for me it was a day I remember clearly, due to the major traffic works that had started in town that day. Did I throw a cig end from the window? Nopes, I always use my ashtray, what they seen me throw from the window, was a leaf that had blown IN the window. I wrote to them with regards to it, and it seems that procedures hadn't been followed, so no fine. Thankfully!!!! Dunno if they had any evidence tho, seems if you write to them then they will show you any evidence.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

Did you know i didn't know that? i am totally surprised by that how can it kill a rider? wouldn't it be same as bird crap???
This exact thing happened to my dad when he was younger an he's never rode a motorbike since. It was a really sunny hot day and he had all his leathers an helmet on but had the top button open on his leather jacket. Some 'person' threw a cig end out the window of the car travelling in front of him an it blew onto his neck an went down inside his leather jacket. Dad lost control of the bike but luckily he was able to just 'step off' but the bike slid across the road an 2 cars collided when trying to swerve out of the way. My dad had burns to his chest, one driver was seriously injured an the other had minor injuries, 2 cars were badly damaged an dads bike had to be scrapped. It cost dad lots in loss and his insurance had to pay the car drivers as the cig thrower disappeared without even realising what he'd caused an no-one realised what had caused the crash until dad was able to tell them - everyone just assumed dad had lost control of the bike. So, Yes, it's extremely dangerous. Also, I live near traffic lights and I've watched as drivers waiting at the lights have a clear out and dump all their rubbish out the car. You always see mounds of cig ends on the road.0 -
I can't stand people chucking litter about either. I smoke and I have a special fag butt pouch thing - it's a small envelope shape that is fireproof and airtight when shut. You stick your butt in there and it goes out safely, and then you can empty it in a bin. They were giving them away in a supermarket once by the fag counter, free samples of ones they were going to sell, but I've never seen them anywhere since. Maybe it should be compulsory for all cigarette sellers to also have these in stock and encourage people to use them?Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j
OU student: A103 , A215 , A316 all done. Currently A230 all leading to an English Literature degree.
Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -

I dont do anything to others. I have to use a smoking area whilst at the pub/work. I dont smoke when walking down the street and even at home i smoke in the back garden.
so exactly what harm am i doing to others? The important thing here is not whether the OP, or anyone else, smokes its whether the driver of the following vehicle is able to take one hand off the wheel (whilst driving I assume) set up a mobile to take movies and to film the driver long enough to see a hand throwing a but out of a window. But they now have lots of CCTV cars everywhere recording all the time so they wouldnt have to set up anything. Just record the time and take a few stills from the footage and the bill is in the postone of the famous 50 -
As Bill Hicks once pointed out:
"Non-smokers die............................every day"0 -

It's perfectly legal to use some of the functions of a mobile phone whilst driving (provided that you are still in control of the vehicle).
It's just the use of the phone itself that is illegal.0 -

http://www.driving-law.co.uk/offences/mobile_phone.asp. I know its not a gov site but its a good indicator I think.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -

I think it's already been mentioned in this thread but Jimmy Carr managed to get out of a fine/points for using his mobile phone because he was using a different function rather than the phone part.
Whether that is against the spirit of the law is one thing but technically it seems shaun from Africa is correct.
Can I also say a huge thank you to the smokers that use their ashtrays and to heretolearn, I can't stand litter and it's probably 50% of the prejudice I have against smokers - the way that most of them have no problems littering.0
