What is reactionary about showing some consideration for others?
Quite the opposite I would have thought.0 -
A couple more points to add to my earlier objections to seeing/hearing/feeling badly behaved, loud kids in public places.
Another of my objections is being forced to listen to discussions by work colleagues about their kids (and other home issues). This can sometimes carry on for many, many minutes, when other people are very busy and trying to work. It's difficult to say anything to these people because of the atmosphere it causes, so you end up with your face fixed in a rictus grin, pretending you find their conversations fascinating while in reality seething inside and wanting them to SHUT THE F**K UP.
Yet another objection is walking along the street and encountering one (or two) of those ridiculous 'buggys' that take up much of the pavement, and being expected to step out of their way, even if there are two women with these contraptions simply standing there yacking. (Should one walk in the gutter?)
Working on books related to conservation, one gets to know that many other species apart from humans (particularly in the Far East) are facing imminent extinction due to the world's growing population and demand for resources (as well as sickening practices, particularly by the Chinese, such as using animal products in traditional Chinese medicine). Instead of attempting to revitalize Britain's north, which is in a terrible state, and create jobs there for the indigenous population, Britain imports throw-away garbage, much of which people don't really need, or which could be produced in Britain, palm-oil products, etc, from the East, causing loss of habitat that tens of thousands of species are reliant on. Forgive me, therefore, if I find it hard to empathize with the breeding population.0 -

Maybe a straightforward answer is that people who don't have children should spend some time talking to children so that they no longer see them as a foreign species. I had to do this when I started working with the public and I'm now much better handling problem children as a result. It was really hard at first as there didn't seem to be any common vocabulary and on reflection I'd probably spent 20 years only in the company of adults. Guess what, I also found out that most children aren't unruly even now, they are just naturally excitable, but they can have off days.
That's not to absolve parents of their responsibilities and this is something else I've noticed working in a library. Those kids that misbehave the most are not those whose parents are loving but a bit coarse, they are the ones left sitting in a pushchair with no stimulation while their parents log onto Facebook, chat to their friends and totally ignore them. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

OLD WOMAN IN A SHOE
By Jordan Riak
There was an old woman
Who lived in a shoe.
She was a kindhearted mom
Who knew exactly what to do.
She raised all her children
With patience and love.
Never once did she give them
A spank, shake or shove.
Her children all learned
To be gentle toward others,
And good parents too
When they became fathers and mothers.
From their days in the shoe
They learned this about living:
Kindness, not force,
Is the gift that keeps giving.0 -

Are buggys the only things that ever block the pavement? How do you feel about street furniture, other pedestrians, wheelchairs - maybe we should ban everything that might slow you down.Working on books related to conservation, one gets to know that many other species apart from humans (particularly in the Far East) are facing imminent extinction due to the world's growing population and demand for resources (as well as sickening practices, particularly by the Chinese, such as using animal products in traditional Chinese medicine). Wow, you really have opted out of the human race, haven't you. Do you think that if no human children were born anywhere in the world starting tomorrow that there would be no conservation issues for other species in the future? If you think conservation is worth fighting for, why not aim to pass your knowledge and passions on to the next generation so that they can continue your work?0 -
I suspect that a giant shoe is a much sounder investment than some tacky new-build with a laughable NHBC guarantee.0

I think the OP proves exactly WHY those of us with no interest in children find parents and their offspring so annoying.
We don't care about your parenting. We don't care about your children. What they have done is of zero interest to me. I will never find your daughter interesting or worthwhile to talk to.
I don't care that 'all children have tantrums'. If your child isn't able to behave in public then don't bring it to the shops where I will have to listen to it and dodge it and its mother with its massive buggy. I don't wish to watch you breast-feed when I'm drinking my coffee. I don't want to hear it screaming on my bus ride home. Until children are suitably socialised they shouldn't be inflicted on the rest of us in shops/restaurants/pubs/public transport.Well said that man, I stopped going to the cinema, due to ineffective parents being unable to teach their kids to !!!!!!, and I bought a projector instead. But equally I have lost count of meals out that have been ruined due to some screaming brat, I wouldnt have dared behave like some of the kids behave.
I was with my mum at the garden centre cafe last sunday and 3 kids were running wild, sheiking and squealing, when one of them crashed into a pensioner, I approached the parents, half expecting a stereotypical chav I was shocked to find 3 middle class mothers having tea and cake, one them advised that her little johhny was just expressing himself  so I expressed myself by complaining to the restaurant manager and they were asked to either control their children or leave.
:T :T :T
Well said. P!sses me off no end when I hear the irresponsible "parents" of the little darlings just laugh and announce "they're just being kids" like that somehow justifies it. You can't go anywhere anymore without out of control brats ruining riot or causing mayhem. Kids should be confined to houses or specific kid areas like playgrounds until the parents learn to control them and teach them to respect their elders and other peoples property. :mad:0
