Hi, favdaughter, Dojoman is right on 3 strike rule. You just have to keep an eye on your spending and make sure there's enough money left for DD's and standing orders before your next pay cheque goes in. So as l. ong as you keep your receipts for your purchases and tot them up as you go along you should be fine. My mistake was making
a smallish purchase then checking Internet banking a couple of days later ,forgot about the purchase and because of the 2or3 days for them to update the account I had overspent a couple of pounds and my DD. wasn't paid. I phoned them and they told me about the 3 strike rule. It's my own fault so I'm now careful and keep receipts and tot up my expenditure. Good luck for the future. Toscat0 -
Had an email back, c&p'd here:
Thank you for your e mail.
I can advise you that we do not accept the card you have and so unfortunately you will not be able to use it to place an order online.
I am sorry for the disappointment this may cause.
Kind Regards,
Sue Daley

What the?!!! I already know that they don't take it don't I, which was why I emailed them!
I have replied asking them why as I have a Visa Debit card and their site states that they accept Visa Debits and that my card is not an electron or solo, and that they are discriminating against co-op account customers
I have also said I will take it further and write a letter with the relevant information.
The reply above has actually annoyed me greatly if I am honest as it is so, I dunno nothingy?!! It's like they have just looked and gone nope we don't accept it and thats that and we are not going to look into anymore than that. Grrrr.....
So the fight goes on0 -
I had the problem of payment by Visa Electron not been accepted by M&S some time ago. When I rang and queried I was told that because these cards are made available to under 18's the do not accept as alcohol can be bought online and they would not know if the buyer was under/over 18, also would not accept phone orders for the same reason.
I didn't realise that Debenhams didn't take it. Tried to order a bargain today and could not pay so did a search and found this thread - so it seems plenty of people having the same problem.£2012 in 2012 = £34.440 -
If you don`t have enough money to clear DD or a debit card transaction and this happens on 3 occasions the Coop will close your account.
I have recently fallen foul of going overdrawn for a third time and got myself into a massive panic thinking about all the Direct Debits I would have to sort out, so I rang the Co-op. Thankfully, they informed me that the 3 strike rule only comes into effect if you have been overdrawn 3 times in a period of 3 months (Phew!). As I had been overdrawn on 3 occasions over a period of 2 years, I was okay. What a relief!
Hope this clarifies things for you all.

I too have Co-Op visa card and tried it at debenhams online (no way) but what really ... me off was that I can pay with it at the till in Tesco but not for the online shopping with Tesco for home delivery.
I have placed an order, all went through, got an email confirmation all good, on the day of delivery - a phone call from Tesco saying they are unable to take payment from my card and can I come, pay in strone and collect the shopping?
Well, that was NOT my idea of home delivery so told them to keep it.
It was few months ago, I have not tried since.
Is anyone ordering from Tesco online with a card starting from 4508?
Thanks0 -
I havs had a delivery this morning from Tesco using my Co-op Visa Debit card. In fact I have one every week and have had no problems with it. So I would try again.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0

I am able to use my4508 card to get Tesco online shopping as well, I think though that it is fairly recently - the last few months that they have been accepting it.0
-
Oh really? Perhaps will try again.
Normally shop at Asda as it seems to be cheaper than Tesco but Asda has got some really weird system when they reserve the money at the time of order and then collect the exact amount (which may be different than the order as some things are sold by weight or some mey not be in stock) on the day of delivery and then the reserved amount is still "hanging" on the account for a few days blocking the money till it drops off. Got cought like that a few times now with Asda, now after each delivery call my bank and ask them to release the "reserved" amount and the Asda collected the shoping cost in a separate transaction.... very very bad service... but cheaper than Tesco on most things still0 -
Hi all - I have also had this problem with my Co-op Visa Debit card so I have been doing a little digging and have found this.
The Co-op changed their electron card to a visa debit card around 2 years ago. Well before I opened my Co-op account last May. They advised the banking industry of their changes.
So far so good - BUT one bank that handles the processing of the card payments for retailers HASNT updated its databases. So firms like John Lewis, M&S, Shell and Debenhams are told by the bank that the card is an electron when it isn't!!!!
The bank in question is Lloyds TSB - I have taken the matter up with their Chairman who hasnt replied to me in 2 months (I dont think he will now!)
So its not the retailers fault (other than they are using a bank which is clearly incompetent!) really. I have also spoken to the Banking Ombudsman who isnt interested in investigating so I've sent my file to the Information Commissioner to see if there is a breach of the Data Protection Act.
Just remember - the Bank is trying to get you to use a Credit Card instead of your Co-op Visa Debit Card (which actually will only allow you to use it if you have the money!!) to make money out of you0 -
I didn't realise that Debenhams was one of the stores to have not updated their systems as well
I went to order a couple of bits in their sale at bargain prices and it said I have an invalid card no
I would phone and give them a piece of my mind but younger son is sitting here and one of the things I want to get is for him!
Mad as a wet hen I am, I think I may send them the same letter as I did to Transpenine!
So to recap - Debenhams don't accept our card, M&S still?? anyone else who should be getting a letter?!!
Ha ha I have never seen a wet hen:rotfl::rotfl: John Lewis are they sameIf you woke up this morning congratulations, you have another chance :j0
