it is one of Debenhams Q&A's it tells you there what cards they accept

Lost it says on that link that they accept Visa debit cards - which the card with the co-op is. Only they are still seeing it as a Visa electron as the people that manage their systems haven't updated the bin code yet.

So in essence what cards they say they accept is incorrect as they do not accept all visa debits do they?

And LewisA, someone somewhere is to blame for me not being able to use my card on the site - be it Debenhams or the people they use to process payments, as I don't know which bank they use then I and others have to complain to Debenhams in the hope that they will then realise that they are losing out on sales and contact their payment processors.

  • At the end of the day the customer is the end user so whether it is the retailer/card clearer at fault, as a customer it doesn't matter.

The bank provides the card processing service for which the retailer pays a fee.

If the retailer feels that they have a significant revenue gap I'm sure they would be the first to raise with the bank providing the service.

My suspicion (and it is just thus) is that the loss of income is not significant enough for them to address.

Lost - I would have done that but the bargain I wanted was for the youngest sons christmas and he was off poorly and would have heard me !

I have emailed Debenhams anyway and told them how unimpressed I am, will update if I get any response.

Most of the time I elect to use Electron but I have the fall back and safety of o2 Money Visa.

I have inserted my Electron as a Visa card online in the past and it worked.
  • Thankyou for the info, much appreciated.
my husband got his card for co op yesterday!!!! i'm so pleased! mine hasn't arrived yet,i rang them the lady said they're sent out individually for security as are the pin numbers. she tried to do security over the phone with me but because i was the 2nd name on a joint account there wasn't enough she could ask to complete security. she told me to visit branch with id,hubby took me in today.....we're up and moving now! i'm so pleased.

my hubby rang the CAB today,he's getting a lot of calls from Egg. they had a free slot to see their money adviser! we went, it was a long meeting, quite stressed-both of us. he spoke about BR but thinks we can go for a IVA, we have to wait now while he meets with someone else re our case.

He said they usually use 1 of 2 companies for IVA , 1 being Grant Thornton, not sure who the other is yet. anyone heard of them?
being able to have read up a little here before meeting the CAB has been a big, positive help. thankyou all for posting,it makes a difference.

Retailers dont update bank id numbers, I would imagine thats the responsiblity of the payment service providers.

Wrong retailers do update BIN databases.

If you don`t have enough money to clear DD or a debit card transaction and this happens on 3 occasions the Coop will close your account.
