Nigella's chilli jam

I am thinking of making Nigella's chilli jam to give away as presents.
Has anyone tried it?
I don't want to spend time and money making something that tastes like cack.

  • not tried Nigellas chilli jam , but I did make Jamies cheeky chilli chutney and it was delicious and has the added advantage of being able to be made at the last minute as it doesnt need time to mature :)

  • It's yummy, but does come out more like a sauce than a jam - at least mine did. However, I do really like it, and it is possible to do a small batch to test first.

  • I have'nt tried any others but this http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/8257/sweet-chilli-jam is like a party on your tongue... It does take longer to cook down than the 50 minutes stated though...

    Yep...it's delish! Mine turned out more jelly-ish in consistency and is great with cheese. Looks beautiful...glowing clear orangy red with red flecks. I have even had it on toast tho Nige says not to!

    It was Anthony WT's recipe...and it contains apples so is much milder/sweeter

    I made it and like it a lot. It's very pretty too, although I was impatient putting it in the jars and all the chilli flakes are at the top.

    Another vote for this one...much cheaper than Nigella's one as I think hers has quite a few red peppers. I tend to buy the chilli flakes from the local asian shops as they are much cheaper than the supermarkets :money:
  • Nigella's chilli jam is the only one I make now. I make it as jam, and as a jelly [strain out the bits and pot those up separately and use in chilis and curries], and cook it less for chili drizzle jelly.

    3 very simple ingredients - chilis, cider vinegar and sugar. You don't need red peppers - just the chilis. Don't use her other recipe - just this one. And no dripping, just whizz, cook and jar it up.

    The best thing about it is that it is sweet as well as hot - excellent with cheese and crackers and drizzled over pizzas. Everyone in our family gets a pot or bottle whenever we see them. I get the OH's chums just drop round for a jar and a bottle of home made wine whenever they run out as well. It's legendary.
    If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
  • I've made it the past two years, the first year it was a bit runny (but still edible) this year I tested it on a saucer to see the cooled consistency & it turned out beautifully. We made it to go in hampers for our parents last year, and this year they asked for more so it must have gone down well. It's the middle jar of the below photo HTH :)

    Could you please tell me how long it keeps for - weeks/months? I have no patience for jam making but this recipe has no straining so it sounds quite fun.
