No I havent, but don't think that will help either as I am not promted at any point to enter a password - the message just says that I;m not logged in and to click ok to re-start the computer. I then go through the same scenario again.

Yes, that's what I get - when I've selected the language and clicked ok, i then get the message about not being logged in, not the next step in this sequence

So why not try doing a Startup Repair instead, if it will let you?-that will not wipe all your data first.

I tried that too - I think! It's the same screen as safe mode isn't it - you just choose the option? Whichever option i choose I always get the same message

Yes I did try this method but the laptop didn't start bleeping as indicated even though I held the 0 down for about a minute
