Toshiba Laptop system reset?

Hi,

I am trying to restore my son's Toshiba Satellite laptop to factory settings rather than pay PC world £60 for the privelage!

However, I keep getting stuck on a screen which says "you must log in to access System Recovery Options" and to contact system adminstrator. Does anyone have any idea how I can past this?

Thanks in advance :)

Is this a laptop thats part of the government scheme for low income families or is owned by/has come from an employer?

Are you logged into the Adminstrator a/c when trying to do the Factory Restore?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

See if you can select another user and find yourself & type in password.

Or, select "admin" and then OK with no password entered...if you haven't set up an admin account

  • Why not post some info about the problem that made you want to undertake a Factory Reset in the first place ?

  • Hi, thanks for the replies - I haven't had a chance to look at the links yet, but to confirm it's wasn't/isn't a company laptop and wasn't one suppliled under the governement scheme either. Basically I think it has a virus, when you turn it on it says it is going to repair itself and then can't. I don't even get as far as the initial desktop to login (there is only one user account on the laptop). DOes this help anyone with dignosis?

    Thanks

Nothing to indicate a virus there, either OS corrrupted or hard drive failure more likely?
Can you boot it into Safe Mode (tap F8 on start up)?

  • No, I can get that screen (well it actually comes on itself when I turn the laptop on) but then following that I get stuck on the screen that I inidcated in my OP. So it won't boot at all really

Can you get onto the BIOS features? You might have to format it
