I don't doubt they are.
I hope you are not paying for an HD source that you cannot observe, that would be a real waste of money.
I can observe it just fine, all I am saying is there is not a significant difference between SD and HD on my TV.
I have asked many visitors if they can see a significant difference, none can.
Only if you get up to about a metre away from the screen can any difference be noticed.
I sit about 15/18 foot away from my TV.
My next door neighbour has said that the SD picture on my TV is far better than the HD picture on his.
He has a 42" LG LCD, I have a 42" Philips Plasma.
So I stand firmly by my opinion that; It is not how good your TV is at displaying HD content, but how good it is at displaying SD content.0 -
Yes you can tell the difference between HD & SD,the sound is certainly much better even if you watch HD thru an SD TV like you may have in the bedroom. In fact,to my dodgy eye's,a HD picture looks even better on an SD tv than an SD picture does...
Is that even possible?
My Sky HD box only has an HDMI output, no scart, meaning it can only be view on an HD TV.
Regarding quality - it's distinguishable on programmes that were genuinely filmed in HD. A lot of the programming on BBC1 HD is not HD quality (as I discovered this morning), it's just an upscaling of the standard programme.
The Sky HD channels are all very good and very distinguishable in quality.
The only time I have problems is when scenes in films or tv shows are in the dark. If it's a solid black darkness then it's fine, but if it's with low lighting (24 being a prime example), it tends to look "gritty" rather than crisp.
I have flicked between standard def channels and their HD counterparts and the difference is HUGE!!!
I would definitely say that it's also about ensuring your TV is set up correctly. A lot of demonstrations in electrical stores are set on "dynamic", making everything very bright and colourful. It can look great, but also doesn't look natural.
I modified the settings on our TV to sit somewhere between the default setting and the dynamic.0
