  • so you would carry on taking the same day every year and working 364 days between holidays while I would take my day an average of 6 days earlier every year. So I wouldn't have to work 364 days before my 1 day holiday I would only be working 358 days. Suppose you can only use the bathroom on your day off. You have to hold longer than me.

Lets suppose you only get 1 day per year holiday and you plan to stay with that company for 60 years .
what is the best strategy to take the one day per year???
is it best to take your day on 31/12 every year ???
or is it better to take your day earlier every year???
by about 6 days earlier would be my guess.
    What's your guess???

Here we go again! If I worked 364 days then got a day off, then I have had my holiday and have earned it. I then start to earn my next holiday. If you take your days holiday after 358 days, you will still have to work another 6 days to earn your holiday that you have already taken, before starting to earn holiday again. Difference?= none! No gain, no pay rise, nothing!

    maybe there is some misunderstanding

the strategy is asking you to decide which day you would take if you only had one day holiday per year.

YOU CAN TAKE THE ONE DAY ANY TIME DURING THE YEAR.
what you want to do is reduce the number of days you have to work before your next holiday

  • this is how the years play out employee 1 always works 11 months before holidays while employee 2 works 10 months between his holiday

    11 MONTHS 11 MONTHS 11 MONTHS employee 1
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxHxxxxxxxxxxxxxxHxxxxxxxxxxxxxH
    JFMAMJJASONDJFMAMJJASONDJFMAMJJASOND
    xxxxxxxxxxxxHxxxxxxxxxxxxHxxxxxxxxxxxxHxxxx employee 2
    10 MONTHS 10 MONTHS 10 MONTHS

I like being the one on the bottom

The problem with this is that you are allocating the same holiday taken to both employees. As I said earlier, no-one will work 11 months because they have more than 1 month holiday entitlement. Having the same holiday as you said earlier, 2.5 days per month, equals 30 days per year, so they will only work 10.5 months, assuming they take all their holiday at once. They will then only ever work 10.5 months before getting 1.5 months off. You would work 10 months and have 1 month off. Who is getting the better deal now?

Ok, start work in January, have holiday end of the month. I have worked 1 month before having a holiday, BUT, I now have to work 11 months to "pay" for the holiday I have taken. The only way to reduce the number of days would be to take holiday in the middle of the year, but even this won't work, because I now need to wait a full year before I get another holiday. Is this clearer?

TRY TAKING 24/12 THE FIRST YEAR DAYS WORKED SO FAR 358
NEXT YEAR 17/12 NUMBER OF DAYS BETWEEN 24/12 AND 18/12 IS
    ABOUT 358

YOU NOTICE THAT AT NO TIME YOU HAVE WORKED 364 DAYS BETWEEN YOUR HOLIDAY

YOU CARRY ON DOING THIS FOR THE NEXT 59 YEARS IF YOU LIKE

    you're styling now

You still don't get it? You have not earned that holiday until you have worked 364 days! If you take the holiday after 358 days, you still owe 6 days work, then another 364 days before you are due another days holiday, so that will be 370 days! You cannot gain anything from this.

I look after our company absence and I dont care WHEN you have your hols, you can have it ever 10 months if you like. But you will work the rest of the year to accrue the hols and you wont get any more! 28 days a year, taken whenever, new leave year on 1st Jan. You leave through the year without having accrued all the hols and it'll be deducted from the final pay..... What a mental thread!!!!! Personally I like hols in the summer when its hopefully warm and not raining too much! lol

Edited to say, and no payrise is happening either....... lol

where I worked we accrued days on a monthly basis and could take the holidays whenever we liked as long as the holidays were already accrued

and personally I like taking holiday when the weather is rubbish here and going somewhere where the weather is better

so after working 10 months I had accrued 22 days so I took a full month holiday. after working another 10 months I took another 22 days

so 10 months was worked between holidays . rather than taking the same month every year and working 11 months between holidays. So my advice is always work out the most efficient way of taking holidays that you have accrued. It reduces the days between your annual leave.
less time worked between holidays is a pay rise to me

You don't understand the system. Mumbles and his system are going to bring down HR offices across the country.

Everything you have been doing the last 10 years is WRONG!
