    Lets suppose you only get 1 day per year holiday and you plan to stay with that company for 60 years . what is the best strategy to take the one day per year??? is it best to take your day on 31/12 every year ??? or is it better to take your day earlier every year??? by about 6 days earlier would be my guess. Whats yours???

    Take the first year on 31/12, take the 2nd year on 30/12

    You worked 364 days to get one day off.
    You then work 363 days until you get your 2nd day off.

    Total of 728 days employed and you have taken 1 day off. Agreed?

    So because you have worked pretty-much 2 years, and only taken 1 day holiday, the 'system' allows you to work 1 day less each year.

    Yes, you can work a day less each year until your holiday, but only because you worked 728 days with only 1 days holiday in the first 2 years.

    So you made the sacrifice at the start, and will benefit from the 1 less day in following years.

    It works the same way with shift patterns. If you're working 5 days from 7 and those days off change, you could end up with 4 days off in a row, but only because you've worked 10 days in a row to earn that time off!

    but employee who takes 31/12 every year has to work 364 days before getting the 1 day holiday but employee who takes 30/12 only has to work 363 days and if he takes one day earlier every year he keeps it that way. While employee who sticks with the same day works 364 days between holidays. Which is best????

    This 365 days thing is confusing and annoying. Let's stick to a months holiday every 12.

    1st year - Work 11 months, holiday in December
    2nd year - Work 10 months, holiday in November
    3rd year - Work 9 months, holiday in September
    4th year - Work 8 months, holiday in June
    5th year - Work 7 months, holiday in February
    6th year - Work 6 months, holiday in !!!!!! I'VE RAN OUT OF HOLIDAY!!!!!!

    so when you are on the last day of your holidays there is only 10 months until your next holiday and not 11 months like everyone else

    Exactly the same result, you just run out of holiday in year 9, then have to work 22 months until your next holiday.

    So yeah, we have conclusively proved you can work 1 month less until your holiday, but only as long as you're prepared to work 22 months without one to balance it up

    1st year - Work 11 months, holiday in December
    2nd year - Work 10 months, holiday in November work december
    3rd year - Work 10 months, holiday in october work nov and dec
    4th year - Work 10 months, holiday in sept
    5th year - Work 10 months, holiday in aug
    6th year - Work 10 months, holiday in Jul
    7th year - Work 10 months, holiday in Jun
    8th year - Work 10 months, holiday in May
    9th year - Work 10 months, holiday in Apr
    10th year - Work 10 months, holiday in Mar
    11th year - Work 10 months, holiday in Feb
    12th year - Work 10 months, holiday in Jan
    13th year - Work 23 months, holiday in Dec - BECAUSE YOU'VE ALREADY HAD THAT YEAR'S HOLIDAY!

    And if you leave at any time during a period, the company will claw back any unaccrued holiday you took via your last pay packet.

    the link is how holiday accrual works.
    every month employed accrues 2+ days to your holiday pot
    so after 11 months you have 22 days and you take 22
    december and the next year gives you another 22 days by november

    This works if you work for a company with monthly accrual and allows you to carry your holidays over from year to year. See the link, it explains it. If you have a different holiday system where you work you will have to move to a company who has a more flexible holiday system

    As you seem to know everyone in the world I must ask this question Do you know anyone from Scandinavia? Ask them about holidays just about everyone takes one month off in June or July . Try going to Paris in August. Its practically closed as everyone is on holiday for a month. The list is long

    Why has no one else picked up on this? This has to be the funniest post from this entire thread.

    I can just picture Paris now, like a ghost town with all the shops boarded up, no people, and a tumble-weed, rolling by.:rotfl:
  • Not far from the truth . I used to work in La Defense and it was a ghost town in august
