True but thats my point. Android is splitered and fragmeted, thats not helping Androids case.
Angry birds is sold as for iPhone and Android. Support for Android is hit and miss. I can understand it not working on lower spec phones, and lower OS levels but it adds in complexity to what it can and cannot work on.
Given the OS support from the makers and networks can make it impossible to upgrade without you using a custom ROM it means the market is not simple. You simply won't know if it will work or not easily.
Can Google change it with Gingerbread, maybe, will they though, the OS is a means to get there advertising out to people for Google if they start imposing restrict6ions will the phone makers go back to proprierty software, or move to Microsofts offering.
If Android isn't bringing advert viewing eyes to Google they will cease to support it. Look how fast they backtracked with the Nexus one. They thought they could force people to them to get the phone and relegated the network operators to carriers, and now they don't even market the phone. The Nexus S may be another google phone but it won't be done direct to Google, they tried it failed and moved on.flyingscotno1 wrote: »Apple too has problems with this and newer apps not being supported on some versions of iOS. My iPod 1G is now left behind (it refuses to auto upgrade to other versions and allow some apps despite reaching it's second birthday in April.
I know Apple are in some sense as bad, once they wish to stop support then thats it, there isn't even the 3rd party or self support option as it's not open source. However to be honest I tend up up grade a device after 2 yerars or so anyway so it's never been a huge issue to me, however I understand your point.
I had an Archos MP3 player, after 12 months that was it, the support was buy a new device. Never bought another Archos product not likely to, not with that level of support.0 -
I'm playing Angry Birds on my Symbian handset. :j0

It is the difficulty in making a range of products. For me a key advantage of Android over RIM, WinMo7 and iOS is the availability of low cost versions which other smartphones fail on cost. If Android gets the low/medium cost market, particularly teens with Facebook it will be a winner anyway regardless of fragmentation! Sure it is complex but that is technology I guess.
In any case rooting the phone is fun!

Android is open to more people with different budgets. iOS is no better, no more exclusive or in any way a premium OS and that is the same for the handsets that house the OS. I will always stand by the fact that the best OS on the market is WebOS.
Why do people think that an iphone is better? Price - Apple demand so much for their phones that people think it must be a better one than any other. The Desire, Samsung and Desire HD etc offer the same and in some cases better experience at a lower cost. There is also more choice with Android from what phone to run it on to how you customise it. Apps - Some are surprised that other platforms run applications. Some think that iOS apps are better than Android apps when in fact they are the same by all but name and in some cases the cost. A very well known tech mag had its app refused entry to the Apple app cat because it hasn't sung the praises Apple wants to hear. Music - As with apps some fail to understand that you can sync any modern phone with various media outlets. People also forget that you could play music on phones had been on the market many years ago. iPod - There was no doubt that the iPod changed the way we listened to our music. Apple then had an amazing idea, put a phone dialler on it with a radio to enable connection to mobile networks. This however was many years ago and now it isn't the breakthrough it was. Brand If you stick to one brand how can you tell what others are at what they do? Apple are seeing their domination weaken very quickly and this is all down to Google purchasing a string of code for very little amounts of money. Some also forget that iPhone is a brand, a phone is a phone. A friends Wife put on Facebook 'Emily (daughter) has learnt how to unlock my iphone' what She was expecting in reply i don't know.
Apple are living from their invention back one the first iphone came out, they refuse to believe that anyone can do better than that. HTC,Samsung have shown apple they had better believe it.0 -
I bought a HTC Desire.., my 18 year old stepson bought an Iphone., reasons why are obvious and have already been explained lol. Fortunately I was able to encourage him to get his own contract to buy the Iphone lol.0

I see your point but in my experience teens what the fashion statement that is iPhone.... I don't have kids but the people I work with who do have teenagers get pestered a lot for an iPhone on a contract that mum or dad will pay for.0 -

Not sure I agree about WebOS, all OS's have good and bad however I generally agree. Most people really do not care what the OS is it's the brand. Is iOS a premium OS, irrelevent, the handset is a premium product amnd it's not liek you have any choice in the OS.Why do people think that an iphone is better? ....

Apple have never been that innovative, the iPod was not the first MP3 player, the iPhone was not the first smart phone, Mac's were not the first all in one computers.
.
The iMac is a beautiful design statement, and as an all in one looks so much better than most all in one PC's do. The original iMacs were a fantastic design statement.
But then Apple are more a design house, the things they do work together well (not hard if you control the whole ecosystem) and look great. For many people that alone is reason to buy one. If you a young trendsetter a slim sleek mac is so much better for the image than a anonymous black box of a PC with wires everywere.0 -

Kids might want the fashion statement but I know most parents baulk at a £400 phone or £30 min contract for 2 years when there are cheaper alternatives. Esp at the moment kids are told no much more I've noted!0 -
The iPhone 4 is by far the BEST phone around, I always live when I see these jealous people trying to run it down. I've had mines from June and it's the first ever apple phone I've had, I've saw some off those HTC phones and they are no where near as good.0

We have another one folks :rotfl: I always laugh at the needs of some folk to justify their purchase and run down people not liking something as jealous but not stating why it is the 'best' phone.
Objectively what specifically makes you iPhone the 'best' for you and why do you view an HTC phone nowhere near as good?
No phone for me is the 'best'. Some market reviewers might regard it as that, however it is down to individual needs and costs and what is best for the user. For example Tech Radar (http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/20-best-mobile-phones-in-the-world-today-645440) state the original Desire still to be 'best' even after its new version, but for my folks a cheap phone is best for them.
An iPhone is pointless for my use as I cannot use the flash video needed on websites I view. Therefore, given the cost and all things into account it is not the best phone around for me.0
