iPhone4 yes or no?

I payed £135 to TMobile last week to terminate my current contract early and take out a new contract with iPhone 4 - it is £35 a month including 500 mins and 500 texts (+ a booster of your choice, I chose unlimited T-Mobile to T-Mobile calls).

They are out of stock at the moment so I have been waiting 2 weeks for this phone and am starting to wonder whether it is worth it.

I have an old Blackberry Pearl at the moment which has served me well for 2 years until the trackball died. I pay about £25 a month.

The iPhone looks pretty damn cool but £35 a month for 2 years seems quite a lot..

iPhone customers have you found a better deal and do you like the phone?

  • No. HTC Desire HD is better than the iphone 4 in a number of ways. It is also cheaper. £25 per month, 900 mins, 500 text and 1GB internet. Have alook aroud the internet, google HTC Desire HD deals. The iphone isn't what people make it out to be or indeed what Apple make it out to be. Video over wifi only and only to other iphone 4 phones.....come on.

You don't get many deals on iPhone, it's pay the going rate or do without.

    Do i like it yes.

Questino is why do you want it and does whatever phone you get deliver what you want.

Video over wifi only and only to other iphone 4 phones.....come on.

Actually Facetime going in the new Mac OS so it's not quite phone to phone, remember it can also go to a iPod touch too, so if your in a Mac centric household it's probably worth it, as chances are you'll have wifi in the house and Wifi is not that uncommon now either free spots or something like BT or The Cloud.

That sais I've used video calling one and probably won't use it in anger however at least I can if I want to, AFAIK the Desire / Desire HD can't even do video calls.

I'd ask what happened to your Pre that you had a while ago, that could do video calling and you thought it was the best phone at the time, has the Desire HD suprassed that phone

To have video calling restricted to one model of phone is a bit daft. Skype does the same thing and with Skype on most phones those with front facing cameras can also do video calling. It is far from innovative on Apple's point. If anything it takes a step back. I remember doing a video call once from a SE K850i and i don't think i have done it since.

As for the Pre, well it has the best OS on the market but is housed in a very very poor phone but HP may have stepped to the mark with their new phone but i feel it is too late for a WebOS phone to fight back.

The OP should look at the Desire HD, it is a very well built phone and runs very quick and a non front facing camera is not a draw back, far from it. iPhones can't demand that they are built or in anyway run better than other phones, Desire, Desire HD,Samsung Galaxy etc etc.

The Desire, Desire HD, Samsung Galaxy will cost you less whilst giving you the same features. They all play music, sync music, play videos etc etc etc.

I would look at GSM Arena and compare the phones for what you want, how they can perform and then look at the cost and see if the functions can demand the cost.

To the above poster, the Pre worked great until the poor build issues started to come to light, things that had not been seen before the release by Palm and even though HP have purchased Palm i don't think that will be of any good. Palms rep was damaged and HP aren't well known for making good quality handsets. They have however started to move quick and time will tell if the new things such as printing direct from your phone to a printer will offer customers what they want.

What do you use your phone for? Few people use anywhere near all the functionality on an iphone (or indeed many other high end phones).

Also since the Desire HD is still new, there's not a lot of "Network Branded" versions about, so you're not stuck with a restricted device.

I got my DHD (Stargate's "Dial Home Device") 4 weeks ago direct from "3" I was surprised it was stock HTC ROM, no branding or simlock...

I suppose I was lucky with having friends who own a selection of smartphones so I got to try a few in the pub :)

I couldn't seperate the iphone & Desire (not HD), both seemed well made & good to use!

In the end it came down to personal preference & I got a Galaxy S... I just liked it! It doesn't feel as well made as the other 2 but it does what I want & does it well!

Not the most technical review I'll admit but in the end it's what suits you..... get down to a shop & give them all a try!

You paid £185 to terminate your contract with T-Mobile (Torange) then took out another contract WITH T-Mobile just to get an iPhone4?

Are you mad? Especially with the deal you got. Three are offering amazing bundles for the iPhone at the moment and have stock everywhere.

Some people clearly have more money than sense.

  • You can definitely put a plan with an iPhone on the same bill as you home phone and Internet and bundle them all for a good deal but the online chat person was right, the stores are the only places in telstra able to sell the iPhone at the moment.
  • you might be disappointed with the iphone as it lacks of some features that you might think they are there.
You can't use bluetooth to transfer from phone to phone or computer.
You might not like the way messages are received (conversation)and some dont have timestamp, No Flash support and a few other little things...
I bought my iphone two weeks ago and the next day I wanted to return it. I kept it because I realized I can leave without those missing features and because I looked at other handsets (Desire HD too big, Galaxy S didnt excite me, Sony Xperia X10 didnt like the menus/icons) and the iphone suited me better.
The Iphone is a breeze to use, is more entertainment than it is a phone
There is no doubt the iphone can be improved especially after being the most expensive phone out there, you would expect a little bit more. Some people jailbrake their iphones to get more out of it but this is something people shouldnt have to do, it should come out of the box with all the features you need.
