When I was younger I remember it always being the 1st December :D

I moved out and my now-ex was a bit of a Scrooge so they didn't go up until the 12th and came back down when we got back from his parents at new year, or just after if we were here for new year.

Since ex has gone, we aim for the 1st December again :D This year though I want to get the livingroom repainted & I'm having work done in the hallway so they might be slightly delayed but they will go up as soon as possible. They come down while DD is away at her dads, sometime between Boxing Day & New Year. This is only be cause I'm a bit OCD about packing them away safely and although I'd appreciate the help she's not as OCD as me and I end up not knowing whats where:o

There is someone down the road who has hers up already  I can understand putting lights up outside this early but not switching them on. This woman had her dashing santas sleigh lit up before Halloween. Way too early even for me.

The weekend before DS2 comes home from Uni (as we did for DS1 & DD) so that he arrives to a twinkly Christmas house.

Two years ago DH was in hospital for major surgery, so we decorated the day before he came out.

They all come down on New Year's Day.
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.

Usually a couple of weeks before Xmas, but thinking of putting them up a bit earlier this year, although DH will probably grumble. I never take them down until Twelfth Night. Getting a few new things this year, just a few bits from pound shops but the kids will like them.

It seems to be quite common now for people to put them up in mid Nov, a few years ago you never used to see anyone's decs up until end Nov/ start of Dec.
  • Christmas Eve, and down again on 12th night.....more than long enough - I'm always itching to get them down by the end of Boxing Day!!!!
