What is the reason for not being on your back when you give birth? I've never heard why it's discouraged.
Can anyone answer my earlier Q about what supplements I should e taking in the run up to labour? And why? I'm 32 weeks on fri.
Got my 31 week MW appt this morning, just celebrated a lie in with a bacon and egg sandwich0 -
Got my form for NHS exemption card to send off today, also got an appointment with a physio for my back:D

Think it's more to do with the law of gravity.
Can't answer your other question, as apart from first 3 months, I haven't taken any supplements.:heart2:Baby boy due 4th March 2011:heart2:0 -

I thought it was the way they were encouraged to give birth in the 'olden days'
I think it's not supposed to be very helpful with helping the baby down the birth canal.
Basically I think mum's are encouraged to get in to whatever position they find helps in labour nowdays - if you want to be on your back then be on your back so to speak!?
My DS is studying Victorian times at school at the mo - he asked me only this morning if I was from the 'olden days'?!!:rotfl:
More Oil of Ulay required me thinks!0 -
Supplement list, sorry I can't remember who posted this the other week but I saved it, sorry for not crediting the author!
I was 32 wks yesterday these are the dosages i work too and what i used last time
Calcium in weeks before labour 1,000mg a day see below with new RDA
Calcium at onset of labour 2,000 mg
EPO 1-2 500mg from week 34 to week 37
3-4 500mg during week 38!
Insert 1 capsule each night from week 39
RLT 1 cup from Week 32 to Week 33
2 cups Week 34 to Week 35!
3 cups in Week 36!
4 cups in week 37 and 38!
TOTAL = 6 boxes of 20 tea bags IF YOUR USING TABLETS THE WOMAN IN HOLLAND AND BARRETTS SAYS ONE TABLET = 1 CUP OF TEA
Arnica Cream For application after birth decided on arnica tablets instead see doses below!
Arnica Tabs 30c 2 tablets 3 times a day – 3 days before
30c 2 tablets every 2 hours – up to 6 doses!
30c 2 tablets 3 times a day – 5 days after!
Ive actually got the 60c arnica tabs so i just halve the dosage but i dont think it matters as you can't overdose on it.0 -
Thanks ema......dont suppose you know why we should take calcium, RLT, and epo do you?? What are the benefits?? Xx0

Has Hitchins said, gravity is not helping you.
Being on your back also makes the passage through the pelvis narrower than it would be in other positions (squatting, kneeling, etc.).
No ideas about supplements, I didn't take any. Ask you midwife, she might give you some good advice on the subject.
And yep, I'm still here! Still pregnant  EDD+11 now...0 -
I've got like a credit card sized thing....?
Was the male MW gorg then? Trust me to miss it.....
DS was born 8 days early (again, wasn't encouraged to walk about etc, just laid on the bed and did as I was told, didn't know any other!) so i'm waiting for DD to put in an appearance today :rotfl::rotfl: wish it worked like that, but knowing my luck, i'll be 8 days late......
I wouldnt say he was gorgeous but he was lovely!!! really nice and supportive and both me and oh were like oh hes not what I would expect a male mw to be like. I would deffo have him at my birth - hes certainly better than the mw's ive met this time around!!!
GB - kids really do know how to make you feel special dont though this morning ds came and said "why is your hair all this mess and fluffy?" I was like "well thank you good morning to you too" lolI, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.
