I'm the same about the pain relief, although I've ordered a TENS machine tonight, as I dont have a birthing pool (would the bath do???:rotfl:) I'm hoping positive thinking & staying upright will get me through.....

I'm quite prepared for it all to go tits up though :rotfl::rotfl:

Are you planning a home birth too?

I used a tens machine last time, but have decided to try the water this time instead.

I think the bath would be fine if you can get your lower back and bump under the water - when I last talked to my MW, she said that if you can get your bottom and lower back under water, then it will help. I struggle to get under the water enough, but I am fairly tall and our bath is smaller than average.

Chakani, I love the sound of your birthing room with everything ready in the cupboard and the flowers ready for when you open the curtains afterwards :) Is this your first baby? I will be crossing my fingers that all goes well for you :)

I ordered a matress for the Sola carrycot from M&P. Their website is horrendous and I'm not quite sure I have the right one, but I had a gift card they sent me over Christmas so got £5 off, I will pick it up in their store so can check there and then if it is the right one :)

    Oh, and Congratulations Icwus xx

    Hi girls,
Just a quick message to say little Hanna was born 22nd Jan weighing 6lbs 1oz after being induced. Labour was quick and painful but can honestly say I can no longer remember the pain. Thanks for all your support.
I'll be back to check who else has given birth and how everyone is once I have a moment.

    Congrats!:j:j:j

    Lol @ RBG

Can i ask an odd question? I have found with this and my last prenancy that i get very nervous and paranoid about the slightest things. Is that normal? Does anyone do the same?
I start to get panicky about nothing, or i get it into my head that my work colleagues don't like me-(maybe they don't?!)
It makes me withdraw and go quiet. I dunno, maybe i'm being stupid, but it makes me upset and i get all emotional. Is it just me?

Totally normal, I would reserve judgement on the colleague until after babe is born, maybe she is ttc??
Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x
  • DP - I have been told not to try the stop weeing too often as it can cause problems emptying your bladder, it should only be used to check which muscles you need to work on, then try to remember the sensation IYKWIM.

Hngrymummy - those were the excercises I was given although the physio did say any type of excercise would help, those were the best ones to do! :D

    Congratulations Lwcus!

I'm feeling very tired, last night OH didnt sleep well and when he did sleep he was talking to me in his sleep. I have also been reading posts about OH's and decided he's a good un. His only issues are leaving lights on, not being able to see the wood for the trees, leaving doors open oh and baby gates open. But then I am untidy and he just tidies up after me lol

No, this is my second. I decided on a home birth as I had a quick labour with my first, and I've been very lucky that I live in an area where the MWs are very pro-home birth.

People keep asking what is going to happen with DS while I'm giving birth, because we live in a very small house. My mum is here specifically to look after him, so I'm going to leave it up to her judgement to decide, depending on how calm everything is, and what time of day it is - birth plan? What birth plan :rotfl:

How old is Alice Susan? She sounds exactly like my little sister who is 4. My other sister and niece are still living at home and Ella loves to do everything for the baby - when baby gets bathed Ella picks a vest, babygro, clean nappy and lays them all out on the bed for my sis! Sounds like you're going to have a fantastic little helper.:D
She'll be four in April. My biggest worry is that she might be over zealous with helping.

Discovered that a lady i work with, her sister is a midwife at the hosp i'm delivering at. And apparently they only have one birthing pool, its ridiculous, its a massive hospital, really disappointed now as i bet its in use when i go in :(
Ours doesn't have any - you have to go to one 45 minutes away to get a chance of one. I hope they don't have any issues with me having a water birth at home as they said you're not even allowed to give birth in the bath at the hospital - only on "dry land".

oh and he would never think to just go and feed the kids at lunch time or bath them or anything like that. Apparantly thats up to me to decided when it happens and what their having. God knows how he would get on if (heaven forbid) anything should happen to me.
He'd learn pretty quickly - mine took about a week in December to learn that he needs to think about all these things and not give lunch two hours late etc.

    Washable nappies

Is anyone else thinking of using theses? I'm considering using the old style terry square nappies as they would literally save us £100's. I used disposables for DS so it's all new to me.
I used them last time (although due to doing EC I moved onto muslin squares as I didn't need such large absorbancy) and they were really easy. Most of the actual nappies I bought on eBay but even if you buy them new they're still pretty cheap.
I'm not sure what wraps I'll use. It's still a bit confusing...if I've got it right I need a throw away or washable liner, the flat nappy & then a wrap. I know I need a lot less wraps, hopefully 4 will be enough. I might even try the plastic pants rather than wraps as they are even cheaper.
I just used plastic pants from Boots/Mothercare - I think they come in packs of 5/6. But we weren't using nappies/wraps full time and if you are you may find it better to have something a bit more breathable. Liners aren't absolutely necessary but do mean that the poo doesn't stick to the actual nappy. I understand they're also supposed to make the nappy feel less wet to the baby but that didn't apply to us.

When I was ill in December, I half convinced myself (despite the fact I was receiving text messages to the contrary) that nobody on the parent thread really liked me and that they were all just too polite to say anything. Then I came back and searched my name and found so many concerned posts about me it made me cry. :o

    Good Evening Lovelies :)

Sorry, I've only skim read over the last few pages. Too tired to catch up properly!

Congrats Iwcus - lovely name. Birth story and piccies when you're ready please :D

Charlie - I hope everything was ok at the Drs? (((Hugs)))

MI3 - I hope bubs makes an appearance soon. If you're not careful you'll be moved off the main list soon :rotfl:

BBM - I would like to use reusables. But every time I sit down to research it just confuses the wotsits out of me. My council operates a scheme with Real Nappies of London (or something similar) and they give a £50 voucher (I think) towards the nappies. I keep meaning to sign up but need to scan proof etc in to email to them. I'll get round to it one day!

Is anyone else in the third trimester super tired? I know I'm lucky compared to some of Team Insomnia (:o) but come 9pm I'm so tired I could sleep on a washing line. I always wake up in the middle of the night for the loo, but its straight back to sleep. I'm just constantly exhausted!

Anyways, enough ramblings form me - I hope all ladies and bumps are keeping well x

  • Hi ladies, just got back. Thanks for the concern.

Blood pressure is very low and with lack of sleep i'm basically just tired (just a tad!) and apparently dehydrated. The Dr at the hospital said I could come home and if there were problems with my results (bloods and urine) they will call me to go back up. Glad to get back. Left at 1pm to go to docs then they sent me up the hospital and I suddenly lost 7 hours of my day.

Bubs is fine though so that's all that matters! I have been 'ordered' by my bosses to take the day off tomorrow so I can rest some more. So there is that too.

Be nice to relax a bit whilst the kids are at school!
